Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays it is widely considered that the best way to provide accommodation in large urban centres is to construct tall apartment buildings. I partially agree with this statement as apartements can accommodate a large quantaty of residents at a smaller area with a cheaper rent, but at the same time there are privacy issues as well as safety concerns.
Firstly, due to overpopulation cities have became more and more packed with less area for construction of smaller residentrial units, so the only remedy to this issue is apartments as they have the ability to accommodate large number of people at the same time. Moreover, apartments offer an affordable living for people from all backgrounds and also give them an oppurtunity to enjoy a city life. For instance, individuals who have a longing to live in big urban centres can fullfil this wish by opting for affordable appartents. Another benefit is that hundereds of residents in flats will cover up less space as compared to, if they choose to live in houses. This will also be fruitfull for the environment because of less construction on wider area.
On the contrary, there are also some drawbacks of living in apartments.Families cannot enjoy a proper private life as all the residents residing there have a common roof, common car park and a common lobby. For example, people who want to go to the roof in evenings to have tea will face the problem of over-crowding, this will get awkward for them to sit there and enjoy. Furthermore, another concern is of proper safety as the apartements do have a security cameras and designated guards but due to size they are unable to cover the whole building in most of the cases. Parents also donot allow their children to play in common parks because they are not sure of the safety.
To conclude, I agree that although residents in apartments enjoy cheaper rents can can also aid in solving the problem of overpopulation, they also have many concerns regarding safety and privacy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partially agree that tall apartments can address housing pressure, while recognising concerns about privacy and safety. The response addresses both sides and gives relevant support, including the point that flats use less land and the example of shared roof and parking areas. However, some ideas are more fully explained than others. The affordability point is asserted rather than supported with a clear comparison, and the safety argument would benefit from a more precise explanation of how building height or shared facilities create risks. The conclusion also repeats the main points without clarifying how the benefits and drawbacks shape your overall judgement. Develop each reason with a specific explanation or example to make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting apartments, a paragraph presenting drawbacks, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “On the contrary” help readers follow the main stages, and the examples generally sit beside the points they illustrate. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the stronger progression expected at the next level. However, connections within paragraphs can feel mechanical, and several ideas are added in sequence rather than developed through clear relationships. The transition from affordability to environmental benefits, for example, could be made more explicit. Improve cohesion by using pronouns and linking expressions precisely, and organise each body paragraph around one main claim with explanation and evidence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “overpopulation,” “urban centres,” “accommodate,” “affordable,” and “privacy issues.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural collocations are noticeable, such as “apartements,” “quantaty,” “residentrial,” and “enjoy a city life.” Phrases such as “cover up less space” and “fruitfull for the environment” also weaken precision. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but accuracy and natural phrasing are not yet consistent. Proofread spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, such as “take up less space” and “benefit the environment,” rather than translating expressions word by word.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as,” “because,” and “although,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some sentence patterns are handled effectively, such as the explanation that apartments can accommodate many residents in a smaller area. However, there are several grammatical errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “cities have became” should use the past participle “become,” while “a large number of people” needs an article. The final sentence contains the repeated “can can,” and “although residents … enjoy cheaper rents can also aid” is not grammatically complete as written. Review verb forms and clause structure, and proofread each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb.
