Student answer (Band 5.0)

Providing homes to all citizens is a major problem all over the world especially in large cities.Especially in under devoulped countries such as in Pakistan many people suffer with this issue.I totally agreed with this statement that to build tall apartments in large cities to overcome this problem.

One major reason is that if we build tall apartments,we can provide homes many people in one building. We can buid a building on small area and one building contain many appartments.Through this idea we can provide homes for many homeless people whose spend their nights on the roads.Large cities like Karachi and Lahore people face that problem of home. Some people think that it creats a problem of a lot of population living in small areas. And it also cause of traffic and polution. But this idea can provide home for every person. People can live easily in tall apartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear position—“I totally agreed” that tall apartments are the solution—and give a relevant reason: one building can provide homes for many people on a small area. The examples of Karachi and Lahore also connect the issue to large cities. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it does not explain why this is the best way compared with alternatives, and the concern about population density, traffic and pollution is mentioned but not answered. The supporting ideas remain brief and general, with no specific example or explanation of how apartment construction would work. The response is also 105 words below the required minimum, which limits the development of your argument. Extend each main point with explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the housing problem, gives a reason for tall buildings, and then mentions possible disadvantages. Linking phrases such as “One major reason” and “Through this idea” help show how some points relate. However, the overall progression is limited because the response consists of one paragraph and moves quickly between claims without developing them. The contrast introduced by “Some people think” is not followed by a clear response to that opposing view, so the relationship between the ideas is incomplete. Repeated references to “this problem” and “this idea” are also vague. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, and a counterargument, and connect each point explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a small set of relevant terms, including “homes,” “large cities,” “apartments,” “traffic” and “pollution,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and several word choices or spellings make the writing less clear or natural. For example, “suffer with this issue” is an awkward collocation, while “provide homes many people” needs a more precise expression. Errors such as “devoulped,” “buid,” “appartments” and “creats” are noticeable. Try to use more precise housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check spelling carefully. A wider range of accurate phrases would help you explain both the benefits and drawbacks rather than repeating general terms such as “problem” and “idea.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main position using mostly simple sentence patterns, and some longer sentences attempt to explain cause and effect, such as “if we build tall apartments, we can provide homes many people in one building.” However, the range of structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response awkward. For example, “I totally agreed” uses an unsuitable verb form for stating your current opinion, and “one building contain” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “people whose spend their nights,” the relative pronoun is incorrect, while “it also cause” has an agreement problem. Practise accurate complex sentences with “because,” “although” and “if,” and check verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence punctuation.
