Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, In most countries the trend of high-rise buildings is quite common, because they take less amount of land as compare to people residing in it, whereas the conentional homes accomadates less people as compare to the land it covers. Many countries now see a crises of over population where there is not enough land to accomadate the growing population. It also have to do with jobs, most people now prefer to live in big metropolitan cities as there are more jobs there, which makes people to land ration quite big, so to accomadate the population many governments has banned the construction of the conventional homes and encourage the concept of highrise buildings.like in many countries you see malls built on the ground floor and the rest of the floors are used by people. this is very common now. As we are going in the future many government are making development efforts in the old area and making highrise buildings which many peoples are oppossing as residing is buildings can be quite hectic too sometimes. the luxury of your own land is very much liked still by many people, which can be a downside for many people as well, but on the otherhand many people can now afford to purchase their own land as compare to in the past. More buildings, more options, more affordable. But, this also has a downside, more highrise buildings have caused lack od wind in major cities which is a big problem, which needs to be taken seriously

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a broadly relevant response and show some awareness of both advantages and disadvantages: high-rise housing can use land efficiently, while residents may prefer having their own land and dense construction may affect airflow. However, your position on whether this is the best way to provide enough homes is not stated clearly or maintained throughout. Much of the response describes trends, such as governments encouraging high-rise construction, rather than directly evaluating whether it is the best solution. The example about malls and apartments is also not explained as evidence for your argument. To strengthen the response, state your degree of agreement in the introduction and develop a few reasons with specific support, including a clear comparison with alternatives such as lower-rise or mixed housing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response contains relevant points, and phrases such as “whereas” and “on the other hand” show an attempt to connect contrasting ideas. However, the ideas are presented as one long paragraph, so the reader cannot easily distinguish an introduction, supporting arguments, a counterpoint, and a conclusion. The progression is also difficult to follow: the discussion moves from land use and jobs to malls, redevelopment, personal land ownership, affordability, and wind without clear links explaining how each point supports the answer. Some connections are repetitive, particularly the repeated comparison of land use and population. Use separate paragraphs and organise them around a clear line of reasoning, with linking phrases that show the relationship between ideas rather than simply adding another point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “high-rise buildings,” “over population,” “metropolitan cities,” “construction,” and “affordable.” This gives you a basic range for discussing urban housing. However, vocabulary is often repetitive or imprecise, and several expressions make the meaning harder to follow, such as “people to land ration quite big” and “lack of wind.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “conentional,” “accomadate,” “crises,” and “oppossing,” which reduce the accuracy of the writing. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the pressure on housing as “high demand for accommodation” and explain the environmental concern as “reduced airflow between buildings.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using subordinate clauses and contrast, as in “because they take less amount of land” and “which makes people to land ration quite big.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and many long sentences contain errors that make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “the conventional homes accommodates,” “It also have to do with jobs,” and “many governments has banned,” where subject–verb agreement is not controlled. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several sentences joined together without appropriate capitalisation or full stops. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add one clear subordinate clause at a time. Check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during proofreading.
