Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, due to migration for work and business in major cities, the population in these cities is on rise. To combat the issue of residency, more buildings and apartment blocks are being built.
As more opportunities in business rises, so do the requirement of labourers and employees. To earn good livelihood many skilled workers opt for moving to metro cities for work along with their families. The business that they are working for also provides them with an apartment complex in the building that they own, which is in most cases nearby the office which makes the commute easy for workers.
The moving family requires a proper house or a place to settle into. In big cities, there is always a lack of unclaimed or empty land. In addition, the land revenue is very high, which forces and makes many people opt for apartments rather than buying their own land or house.
I personally think that building tall apartments blocks is a good way to provide homes for working people. It reduces the stress of spending a lot of money on a land and depleting their life savings. But in contradiction to this opinion when the news and happenings of earthquakes have increased tremendously in the past years, staying at high rise buildings puts people lives in danger.
To handle this problem, the buildings built should be built by a well acknowledged architecture with the help of a good builder who can provide suitable building block to the tall apartment blocks so that they can withstand all natural calamities that may befall.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you support tall apartment blocks as a practical way to house workers, while recognising earthquake risk. You also give relevant reasons, including limited land, high land costs and shorter commutes, so the response addresses the central question. However, the discussion is unevenly developed. The point about employers providing apartments is asserted rather than illustrated, and the earthquake concern is introduced late without explaining how likely risks compare with the housing benefits. The final paragraph proposes safer construction, but does not fully explore other considerations or give a concrete example. To strengthen the response, develop each main reason with a specific example and make your overall judgement about whether high-rise building is the best solution more explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, explanations of urban migration and land scarcity, your position, and a concluding recommendation. The ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking phrases such as “In addition” and “To handle this problem” help signal relationships. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The second paragraph moves from rising business opportunities to employers providing housing without fully explaining the link, while “But in contradiction to this opinion” makes the shift to earthquake risks awkward. The final paragraph also repeats “buildings built” and does not clearly connect its safety proposal back to the claim that tall blocks are the best approach. Use clearer topic sentences and more direct transitions to show how each paragraph supports or qualifies your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “migration,” “labourers,” “commute,” “land revenue,” “high-rise buildings” and “natural calamities.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common expressions show an attempt to discuss urban housing precisely. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “population … is on rise,” “the requirement of labourers,” “a good livelihood,” and “a well acknowledged architecture.” “Building block” is also used unclearly in the final sentence. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check whether a noun or adjective is needed; for example, use “architect” for a person and “architectural design” for the plan.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional-style explanation beginning “As more opportunities…” and the relative clause “which makes the commute easy.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “opportunities … rises,” “so do the requirement,” and “the population … is on rise”; article and plural problems in “apartment blocks” and “people lives”; and awkward sentence construction in “which forces and makes many people opt.” The final sentence is also difficult to control because of its repeated passive structure. Review agreement, articles and plural forms, and simplify sentences when several ideas are being combined. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
