Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, provide enough residential areas for citizens in big cities is increasingly becoming a topic of debate. Some people argue that the best way to achieve this is to construct high building blocks. Despite the possible issues such as crowding and accessability difficulties to the main facilities, I believe that tall apartment blocks are entirely important to provide suffecient houses in big cities.
Having suffecient residential areas in large cities is increasingly becoming a major issue nowadays. goverments could overcome this problem by building tall apartment blocks, which are much more convenient and attractive than the city's outskirts areas. furthermore, high buildings blocks do not need much land to be constructed on. For example, hundreds of families can reside in on building which is about just five os six hundred metre square in size. In addition, such apartments blocks would be considered more convenient and attractive due to their closeness from the city center and the other facilities such as hospitals, schools and supermarkets. Therefore, one of the best methods to provide enough houses in big cities is to build high building blocks.
Despite the appeal of that, tall apartment blocks have some drawbacks on the other hand. Some people would argue that these such buildings may make crowding worse than before. For instance, many people will reside in the same area, this will mean more cars in the same particular area, which lead to more trafic jams and congestion. Also, it may make the accessability to different facilities more dificult, such as schools for their kids and healthcare in the hospitals. So, as a result tall apartment blocks may provide enough homes in large cities but it may contribute for other problems.
In conclusion, despite the possible issues which may come as a result of tall building blocks, I believe they are entirely important to provide enough residentials in large cities

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you support tall apartment blocks as an important way to provide homes, while acknowledging drawbacks. You address both sides and give relevant reasons, including efficient land use and proximity to hospitals, schools and shops. The example of many families living on a relatively small plot helps illustrate the first point. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The concerns about traffic and access to facilities are mentioned, but the explanation of how high-rise housing would make access more difficult is not clear, especially as you earlier describe facilities as nearby. To strengthen the response, explain this apparent tension and develop the drawbacks with a more specific example or qualification.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting high-rise housing, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to limitations is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, several transitions feel mechanical or awkward, including “Despite the appeal of that” and “on the other hand” in the same sentence. The repeated claim that tall blocks provide enough homes also limits progression. Use more precise referencing and make each paragraph advance a distinct point, with clearer links between the claim and its explanation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “residential areas,” “crowding,” “traffic jams,” and “congestion,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “closeness from the city center” and “accessability to different facilities.” However, the range and control are limited by repeated wording such as “tall apartment blocks” and “provide enough houses,” as well as inaccurate word choices and collocations. Spelling errors—including “suffecient,” “goverments,” “trafic,” and “dificult”—are noticeable and reduce precision. Build a wider set of accurate housing and urban-planning terms, and check spelling and natural word combinations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concession in “Despite the possible issues…” and a relative clause in “which are much more convenient…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, the opening needs a subject and a correctly formed clause (“Nowadays, provide…”), while “this will mean more cars…, which lead…” has a mismatch in verb form and agreement. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “reside in on building” and “this will mean…”. Aim to produce accurate basic sentences first, then use complex structures selectively. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause boundaries during revision.
