Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many large cities, there is shortage of housing due to rapid population growth. Some people argue that constructing tall apartment is the valuable idea and effective solution to this problem. I largely agree with the statement and will discuss my views in essay.
Firstly, building-high apartment is good decision the main reason is that there is not enough land in big cities. Land is very expensive and some middle clas families cannot afford. for example, in cities like more population can build 50 or 100 flats which cover good area, similary if we build 3-2 houses on same place we cannot save land and nature. Moreover, if goverment build apartment then no on can build or do construction on illegal land or goverment authorised areas.
Another reason is that it is very easy to give services to many people at one time and due to this pollution also reduce. The goverment can give bus services, schools and hospitals in one area. This will aslo help people to save money and time and kepp environement clean. For example in japan they build tall apartment and provide all facilities under one roof top and this will keep the area and country clean. Furthermore, safety increase in the apartment areas as they always install high quality cameras for safety.
In conculsion, I strongly agree that building tall apartment block is the best way to solve the housing problems in large cities and at some point there might be problems but goverment should plan properly and also make parks and open spaces.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I largely agree”) and is maintained in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons: limited urban land, the possibility of housing many people in one area, and the provision of shared services. The examples about transport, schools and hospitals help explain the practical benefits. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that apartments prevent illegal construction is not clearly connected to how they provide enough homes, and the Japan example is broad rather than specific. The brief acknowledgement that there may be problems also needs an example or explanation. To strengthen the response, develop each main reason with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a more precise supporting example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Another reason,” and “In conclusion” make the overall progression easy to follow. This clear organisation is a strength. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however: the point about illegal construction follows the land argument without explaining the connection, while the paragraph about services moves quickly from pollution to savings, cleanliness and safety. The repeated use of “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “For example” can make the linking feel mechanical. Group related points more carefully and use pronouns or transitions that make the relationship between each claim and its support explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “population growth,” “land,” “pollution,” “services,” and “open spaces.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “middle class families” and “illegal land.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unclear, including “the valuable idea,” “building-high apartment,” and “under one roof top.” Spelling errors such as “goverment,” “similary,” and “environement” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim to learn common collocations for housing and urban planning, and proofread spelling. More precise terms would help you express the benefits and limitations of high-rise housing clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure (“if we build…”) and a sentence explaining the effect of shared services. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include missing articles in “there is shortage of housing” and “building tall apartment,” faulty sentence construction in “building-high apartment is good decision the main reason is…,” and agreement or verb-form problems in “pollution also reduce” and “safety increase.” Several sentences also need clearer punctuation to separate complete ideas. Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, then check each sentence for a complete subject and verb.
