Student answer (Band 5.0)
some people think that building high apartment blocks is the best solution to afford housing to more people in large cities, although living in villa allow you to have more advantages rather than living in an appartment but i agree that taller blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities because that lead people to live near their work place and reduce housing problems
tall buildings lead to more number of apartments in a smaller area, which allow more citizens to share the same place such as workers that will ensure them to arrive in time at work place and they don't have to drive for kelometers everyday to go at work, for instead some big businesses rent apartments for their workers in the same building not so far from the business adress
there are also a lot of people that want to live in a particularly area in the city but there are not enough homes for each one for exemple most of people want to live in places which afford all the best necessities of life such as clinic, school and

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You state a relevant position: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, and you give reasons involving proximity to work and access to city services. However, the response addresses the task only partially. The point about workers living near their workplace is relevant, but it is not developed with a clear explanation or a specific example; the discussion of areas with clinics and schools is left unfinished. The opening also briefly introduces villas without explaining how this comparison supports your position. The response contains 177 words, which is 73 words below the 250-word minimum; 10 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen your response, complete each idea, explain why high-rise housing is preferable to alternatives, and add a developed example and conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening gives your opinion, and the next paragraph begins to explain the benefits of tall buildings. Some links between ideas are also present, such as “because” and “for example.” However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because the response stops during the point about local facilities, and there is no concluding paragraph. The first paragraph combines several ideas in one long sentence, while the second moves from commuting to businesses renting apartments and then to access to services without clearly separating these points. Use distinct paragraphs for each main reason, connect examples directly to the claim they support, and finish with a brief conclusion. This would make the organisation clearer and reduce the sense of an incomplete response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “apartment blocks,” “housing problems,” “work place,” and “necessities of life.” There are also attempts to express specific ideas, such as workers living close to businesses. However, the vocabulary range is limited and several word choices or spellings are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “afford housing” does not express the intended idea of supplying homes, and “kelometers” and “adress” are misspelled. “Villa” and “appartment” are also used imprecisely or spelled incorrectly. Build a wider set of accurate housing and urban-planning terms, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise wording would help you explain your reasons without relying on repeated general terms such as “people” and “place.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas using clauses with “although,” “because,” and “which,” showing some effort to move beyond short simple sentences. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. For instance, “living in villa allow you” has problems with the article, subject–verb agreement, and sentence construction; “which allow more citizens” also needs agreement with its subject. The opening sentence runs on, and punctuation and capitalisation are largely absent, making the relationships between ideas unclear. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them accurately. Check singular and plural subjects, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries before adding more complex clauses.
