Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is argued that the best possible method to provide sufficient homes in large cities is to construct tall apartment blocks. I strongly agree with the statement because tall buildings can provide accomodation for a large number of people. In addition, it also ensures the maximum usage of land for accomodation.

To begin with, tall apartment blocks can contain a significant number of housing units. Usually each level has several units in a building. Therefore, a high-rise apartment can contain a paramount number of homes. As a result, a large number of people can live together inside a tall building. For example, the building I live in has 15 levels and each of them has 5 units. This enables the accomodation for more than 300 people in our building.

Furthermore, large cities all around the world are densly overpopulated. But in the contrary, these cities lack sufficient space to accomodate people. To overcome this problem, building tall apartment blocks can be an efficient strategy as these tall constructions require smaller land areas than usual housings. In conventional housing system, a housing compound can contain a one or two story building, a compound or even a garden which aquire a large area. These lands can be used to construct a few tall apartment blocks which will maximize the usage of the area. For instance, Dhaka, one of the biggest cities in the world, has a few housing societies like 'Japan Garden City', where a lot of tall apartments were constructed within a boundary which can accomodate a huge number of people. However, these tall buildings can be vulnarable to eathquacks which is a drawback of these constructions.

To conclude, building tall apartment blocks is a smart and efficient solution to provide enough homes in large cities as these buildings take very small space and can accomodate a large number of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree because high-rise buildings house many people and use land efficiently. Both reasons are relevant, and the example of your 15-level building helps make the first point concrete. The Dhaka example also supports your argument about density. This meets the task well, but the two main ideas are not equally developed: the land-use point is explained in more detail, while the first example would benefit from a clearer link between its figures and the claim. You briefly mention earthquake vulnerability, but do not explain how this drawback affects your overall view or whether it changes your agreement. Developing that qualification and making the support more precise would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” makes the progression easy to follow. The examples are placed alongside the points they support, which helps the reader understand the argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise: “But in the contrary” does not express the intended contrast naturally, and the shift to earthquake vulnerability at the end of the second body paragraph feels abrupt because it is not developed. There is also some repetition of “tall apartment blocks” and “large number.” More varied referencing and a clearer transition into the drawback would make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including relevant terms such as “housing units,” “overpopulated,” “conventional housing system,” and “maximize the usage of the area.” There are also attempts at less common vocabulary, such as “paramount” and “vulnerable,” although “paramount number” is an inaccurate collocation; “a very large number” would be more natural. Several spelling errors occur, including “accomodation,” “densly,” “aquire,” “vulnarable,” and “eathquacks.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, such as “usual housings” and “a housing compound can contain a one or two story building.” These do not prevent understanding, but more accurate spelling, collocation, and word choice would improve precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures with “Therefore” and “As a result,” and a relative clause in “a boundary which can accommodate a huge number of people.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “each of them has 5 units” has an unclear reference, and “This enables the accommodation for more than 300 people” uses an awkward grammatical pattern; “This provides accommodation for…” would be clearer. The phrase “a one or two story building” also needs a different article structure, such as “one- or two-storey buildings.” Review article use, sentence patterns, and clear pronoun reference while continuing to use complex sentences.
