Student answer (Band 6.0)

Providing homes in large cities become a challenge for many counteris as the population growing and people trend to move urban areas. The best way to build tall building instead of expanding cities horizontally.

I agree with the statement to build tall apartments. The main reasont to support tall buildings is sufficient use of land. In my city faisalabd on tall nuilding can accomodate hundred families on the same plot. It can be easy for government to provide electricity, water and schools. Societies in my region are expanding horizontally which shrinks the agriculture lands which is very alarming.Tall buildings would preserve that land.

Furthermore high rise living makes public service more economic and sustainable. it also reduce commute time and congestion of traffic as people living near city and job centers located. Environmentally, apartment house have lower carbon foot prints per family compared to individual house as they share walls, heating and cooling systems.

However there are some disadvantages of this as the make pressure on elevators, lack of privacy, over crowded and lack of green spaces in not planned well. lack of parking issue.

In conclusion despite of some infrastructural issue tall apartments is the best solution for large cities to overcome the crises of houses. It maximize the land use and more efficient and sustainable. The key is to plan them with proper facilities, parking, parks and community spaces.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartments are the best response to housing pressure, and you give relevant reasons, including efficient land use, easier service provision, shorter commutes and lower household emissions. The example of accommodating many families on one plot helps make the argument concrete. You also acknowledge drawbacks and conclude that planning can address them. However, the disadvantages are listed rather than explained, and the point about public services being more economical could use a specific explanation or example. The response is 20 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop these ideas. Extend the supporting points and explain how careful planning would resolve the drawbacks.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a paragraph on disadvantages and a conclusion. The progression from land use to services and environmental benefits is logical, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “However” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the argument. Some connections are less clear within paragraphs, though. For example, “It also reduce commute time” does not clearly identify what “it” refers to, and the disadvantages paragraph moves quickly from elevators to privacy, crowding, green space and parking without explaining their relationship. Use clearer referencing and develop each paragraph around a connected main idea, rather than relying mainly on transition words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “agriculture lands,” “high rise living,” “congestion,” “carbon footprints” and “community spaces.” These choices show an attempt to discuss housing and urban planning specifically. However, spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the writing less precise, as in “counteris,” “nuilding,” “accomodate” and “crises of houses.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “people trend to move urban areas” and “make pressure on elevators.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “housing shortage” and “put pressure on lifts” would make your meaning clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a reason clause beginning “as people living near city and job centers located.” The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “Providing homes … become a challenge” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the population growing” needs a finite verb. There are also errors in agreement and sentence construction in “it also reduce commute time” and “apartment house have lower carbon foot prints.” Review verb forms, articles and singular/plural agreement, and make sure each sentence has a complete, clearly structured clause. This will help you express your ideas more accurately while retaining varied sentence patterns.
