Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many large cities face a shortage of housing because their population are increasing rapidly. Some people believe that building tall apartment blocks is the best solution to solve taht problem. I partialy agree with this statement.

The tall apartment blocks are best way to provide more homes in large cities but if the biulding was made by best material and there was little chance of falling buliding.

Firstly, the globle population is increasing very fastly and that population need more houses and apartments. In one large building there are enough apartments which is use ful for more population. Secondly, by this way the large amount of population is live in the single biulding which is best option by utilizing more place. Thirdly, if the buildings are near from work places and schools people and children can easily go to there place.

On other hand, if the building floors are at large amount and the martrial is not secure which is use for built this it is very harmful. At the time of any nature disastars such as earth equake , flood, strom and landsliding if the buliding cannot survive the thousand of population life is in danger. The goveronment also be need to focus on that issues and always check the material which is used in making tall apartment blocks.

In conculsion, high-rise apartment blocks are an best and easy solution to urban housing shortages, their long-term success depends entirely on using superior construction materials and earthquake-resistant engineering to residents safety for long time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree that high-rise apartments can address urban housing shortages, while stressing that construction must be safe. You give relevant reasons, including accommodating many residents on limited land and locating homes near workplaces and schools, and you acknowledge the danger of disasters in poorly built towers. This addresses both sides of the question. However, some points are asserted rather than explained: for example, the claim that proximity helps residents could be linked more clearly to how it improves the solution, and the disaster argument would benefit from a specific example or explanation of safeguards. Develop these ideas more fully and clarify whether tall blocks are the best solution or one part of a broader approach.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting points, a counterargument and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “On other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of your argument. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the three points in the first body paragraph are listed without enough explanation of how they connect. Some linking is also awkward, such as “by this way,” while the shift from housing density to proximity to schools is abrupt. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each claim to its explanation with clear referencing. A more focused paragraph structure would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “housing shortage,” “population,” “apartments,” “construction materials,” and “earthquake-resistant engineering,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make the writing less precise, such as “population is live,” “near from work places,” and “nature disastars.” Repetition of “building” and “population” also reduces flexibility. Aim to learn accurate phrases as complete units—for example, “accommodate a large population” and “located close to workplaces”—and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the benefits of density from the risks of unsafe construction.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea about building safety and a sentence beginning “if the buildings are near…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “their population are increasing,” “there are enough apartments which is,” and “the large amount of population is live.” The final sentence also joins two independent ideas with a comma and has an unclear construction around “depends entirely on… to residents safety.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence patterns, then proofread for articles and punctuation. Clearer control of these structures would make your reasoning easier to understand.
