Student answer (Band 5.5)
The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. This might be a good way of using space in my opinion.
Building tall apartment blocks give levels or floor for example ground floor to 28th floor, it as it's own perks the taller the building easy to manage as all the floors would have the same numbers of apartments and rooms, therefore it makes it easy for the managment to keep an eye on the ongoing operations in the building. Living in a tall building also gives you good views from your windows, which I would definitely go for and now a days majority of people prefer peaceful and good scenic view for living.
Moreover, tall building may come with some limiations such as limited space to utilise and it requires a splendid architect with high skills of building a residential building. Tall building might not be for elderly and people with the fear of heights. Inaddition, cost of constructing a tall building can be high as it requires long electric, water and basic connections wires and pipes. Also the moving cost the people can be high as moving large furniture needs a lot of man power and can be time consuming.
In conclusion, to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks is benefical. It has some cons but the pros can not be ignored in my opinion. These pros can be easily dealt by the managment and the right plan.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear overall view that tall apartment blocks are beneficial, and you mention relevant advantages and disadvantages, including efficient use of space, views, construction costs and accessibility for older people. However, the position is not fully consistent: the opening says they “might be a good way,” while the conclusion calls them beneficial without explaining why they are the best way to provide enough homes. Several points, such as easier management and moving costs, are not clearly connected to housing supply, and the ideas are mostly asserted rather than supported with examples or explanation. The response is 224 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum; 29 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop the central argument and support key points with specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion, and the reader can follow the general contrast between advantages and disadvantages. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the discussion moves from building management to scenic views without showing how each supports the main claim. Some connections are also unclear, particularly the point about moving furniture. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main argument, then explain how each example relates to providing more homes. This would make the organisation more purposeful and reduce the reliance on basic signposting.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “apartment blocks,” “limited space,” “constructing,” and “connections,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common wording, such as “scenic view” and “manpower.” However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “building tall apartment blocks give levels,” “long electric, water and basic connections wires and pipes,” and “the moving cost the people” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “managment,” “limiations,” and “benefical” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling, word forms, and natural combinations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a relative clause in “views from your windows, which I would definitely go for” and a conditional idea in “if…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure and agreement sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. For example, “Building tall apartment blocks give” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “it as it's own perks” is not a complete, correctly formed clause. The sentence beginning “Building tall apartment blocks give levels or floor” also combines ideas without a clear grammatical structure. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation. Shorter, accurate sentences would help you express your ideas more clearly.
