Student answer (Band 6.0)

The best strategy to ensure sufficient housing in bigger cities is to build tall apartments, which I totally agree with.

Overall, poplulation growth in larger cities is increasing day by day due to better lifestyle and facilities, which is causing housing problems. To fix this problem, there is no other way than building apartment blocks instead of a single one storied or two storied duplex house. It can ensure more population living in a small area reducing insuffiecient number of homes.

City life has better opportunities, competitive salaries and easier lifestyles. People nowadays tend to be more city centric than earlier times, causing insufficient housing facilities. This problem will rise day by day. To solve this problem the best approach can be building apartments instead of single one family house. By doing this not only housing problems can be solved but also property owners can be benefitted by giving their apartments on rent. For example, If in a 1300sqft area, someone makes a one storied house, it can contain only one family of 5 members. However, if he made a multi-storied building it could provide 10 families in 1300sqft area.

Another fact can be considered such as, if someone can build apartment for their childrens and grand childrens, everyone can stay together for generations. For example, my grandparents owned a house 30 years ago. They had 5 childrens who are now grown-ups and have their own families. If my grandparents demolish their old house and make apartments for each child, all their childrens can stay together, which is not only a good thing but also solves housing problems in large cities.

To conclude, there is no other way to solve housing problem in larger cities than building apartment blocks instead of personal house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you totally agree that tall apartment blocks are the best response to housing shortages. You give relevant reasons, including accommodating more families on the same plot and allowing relatives to live together, and the 1,300-square-foot comparison helps illustrate the first point. However, the second example focuses mainly on family arrangements rather than showing how this approach addresses housing needs across a large city. The claim that there is “no other way” is also stronger than the evidence supports, since you do not compare apartment blocks with other possible solutions. Develop each reason more fully and explain why high-rise construction is preferable to alternatives to make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present supporting points, and a conclusion restates your position. The examples are placed alongside the ideas they illustrate, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the first two body paragraphs overlap: both explain that apartments house more people than individual houses, so the progression is somewhat repetitive rather than building distinct aspects of the case. Connectives such as “To solve this problem” and “Another fact can be considered” are understandable but sometimes mechanical. Give each paragraph a distinct purpose and use clearer links between the claim, explanation, and example; this would make the progression more controlled and the referencing less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main points, including “housing problems,” “apartment blocks,” “property owners,” and “multi-storied building.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “city centric” and “competitive salaries.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “better lifestyle and facilities,” “single one family house,” and “insufficient housing facilities.” Spelling errors such as “poplulation,” “insuffiecient,” and “childrens” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build a more reliable range of collocations for urban housing and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if in a 1300sqft area” and the “not only … but also” construction. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For instance, “if he made a multi-storied building it could provide” needs clearer punctuation and a more consistent conditional form, while “if someone can build apartment” is missing an article and has an awkward verb pattern. The long opening sentence of the second paragraph also makes the relationship between ideas less controlled. Practise accurate conditional sentences and review articles, plural forms, and comma use while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
