Student answer (Band 5.0)

Today in many large cities making home is very big problem because lack of enough land. On solving this problem people started building tall apartment blocks which is essential for living. Many families live in these tall apartments. I partially agree with this statement because it has both benefits and detriments.

Firstly building tall apartments in large cities give many peoples enough place to live. People start living in these apartments together and build a peacefull appartment. For instance many peoples live in the same apartments and share their things like food e.t.c. which strengthen their relations. In large cities where finding a place or land to make home is seems like impossible where building these tall apartment help many families. Tall apartments build in a small land any other home, which saves land.

Secondly building tall apartments have lot of benefits but it also have some detriments too. I n constructing tall buildings a lot of concrete and cement used which is further emits harmful radiations. In tall apartments taking some household things to the top floor like furniture and many other usable things is very difficult. It took a lot of time and hardwork.

In conclusion building tall appartments give a lot of benefits to peoples. It give them home in those cities where land is very expensive and not enough for building home. while it cause many type of threats and loading some household things to the top floor took a lot of time and hardwork. Except of these deteriments i partially with the statement that best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear, though qualified, response: “I partially agree,” and you address both the space-saving benefit of apartment blocks and some disadvantages. The point that tall buildings accommodate many families on a small area of land is relevant, but the supporting example about residents sharing food and strengthening relationships does not directly explain how this is the best way to provide enough homes. The disadvantages are also only briefly stated, and the claim about concrete and cement emitting “harmful radiations” needs accurate explanation or evidence. To develop the response more fully, compare apartment blocks with alternatives such as building on city outskirts, and explain why your chosen approach is preferable overall. The response meets the stated length requirement; 15 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify your main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the discussion moves from saving land to residents sharing food, then to relationships, without showing how these ideas connect to the housing question. Some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “tall apartments” and “In conclusion.” The conclusion also combines benefits and drawbacks in a long sentence, making your final position less easy to follow. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, explain it, and use clearer references and transitions to show how each supporting point relates to that claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “large cities,” “land,” “concrete,” “cement,” and “top floor,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “making home” is not a natural expression for constructing housing, and “build a peacefull appartment” does not clearly convey the intended idea. Spelling errors such as “appartment,” “peacefull,” and “deteriments” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use precise housing-related terms and check spelling; varying repeated phrases will make your argument clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a relative clause in “where finding a place or land…”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. Examples include “building tall apartments…give,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “it also have,” which has the same agreement problem. Articles and sentence construction are also unreliable, as in “a peacefull appartment” and “where…is seems like impossible.” The final sentence beginning “while it cause” is not properly connected to the preceding sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
