Student answer (Band 6.0)
Apartments not only makes cities look developed, but also help them provide shelter to the citizens. Tall apartments can accomodate many people within a fixed area which can be helpful when a city is overpopulated. In my opinion, building tall apartment blocks might be one of the best ways to provide enough homes to large cities with largest number of population.
Many people can live in a tall apartment block and the taller it is, the more people can reside in it. For example, an 10 storey building with 4 apartment per floor can contain 40 families, which can be between 40 to 160 (considering a family with 4 members) or more depending of the family size. The bigger the familty is,the more efficient it is.Therefore, it can be seen as an efficient way of using space or area of a city.
However, everything has a dark side. Tall buildings without lift can be troublesome for old and sick people, as they will not be able to climb stairs. In addition to this, many people are fear living in multi storey building because of earthquakes or height phobia. Also high rise buildings with a huge distance between floor to ceiling can be a waste of building materials and cannot contain as many people as a building with the same height but adequate gap between floor and ceiling.
Therefore, building tall apartment blocks can be a suitable and effective way of managing hoome for a large number of people in large cities. But other options have to be considered too as not everyone likes to stay in a multi storey building.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you consider tall apartment blocks an effective way to house large urban populations, while acknowledging that they are not suitable for everyone. The numerical example of a ten-storey building helps explain how vertical construction can use limited land efficiently, and you address drawbacks such as access for older residents and concerns about earthquakes. However, some points are not fully developed: the discussion of family size does not clearly show why larger families make the approach more efficient, and the final reference to “other options” is not supported with examples. Explain the conditions under which high-rise housing works best and compare it with a specific alternative to make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, moving from your position to supporting reasons, then disadvantages and a concluding qualification. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and signposts such as “For example,” “However,” and “Therefore” make the relationships between ideas visible. Some connections are less smooth or precise: “The bigger the family is, the more efficient it is” follows the example but does not explain the link clearly, while “Therefore” is used to introduce conclusions in both the second paragraph and the ending. Develop the connection between each example and your main claim, and use referencing or transitions more selectively so the progression feels less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “overpopulated,” “shelter,” “multi storey,” and “building materials,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “fixed area” and “floor to ceiling.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, however: “managing hoome” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “a huge distance between floor to ceiling” is awkward. Spelling errors such as “accomodate,” “familty,” and “hoome” also reduce accuracy. Choose more natural housing terms and check spelling carefully; this would make your ideas sound more precise and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including the conditional-style example “the taller it is, the more people can reside in it” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “Apartments not only makes” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “an 10 storey building with 4 apartment per floor” contains article and plural errors. In “many people are fear living,” the verb pattern is incorrect; “many people fear living” would be grammatical. Punctuation and spacing also need attention, as in “is,the” and “it.Therefore.” Review agreement, articles, plurals, and verb patterns, then proofread sentence boundaries.
