Student answer (Band 4.5)

Some people believe that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. For instance, if we build tall apartment blocks they can help to reduce land wastage because land is expansive and appartments are a good solution. Although this viewpoint may seemvalidto some extent, I believe it overlooks several key aspects. Another reason is that why people hold this belief is due to over population, people move to cities, the reson is that jobs are there, so tall building are needed. For example, many paople move to cities it can cause the crowding so it is a very good idea that we make apartments and it is helpful for people.

Nevertheless, these arguments are not entirely convincing when weighed against the broader implications.

One of the main reason is support tall apartments are not good. This is evident from in tall apartments, no anyone have privacy and it can cause the disturbance in busy life.

Various studies and real life examples have shown that tall apartmentsoften leads to control the population. For instance, in large building the children have no space for playing games because many families are live in this building , if children are playing in small space it can cause noise and everyone disturb with this.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You address the topic by mentioning land use, population growth, privacy and children’s play space, and you signal a position with “I believe it overlooks several key aspects.” However, your overall view is not fully clear: the opening supports tall apartments, while the later points oppose them, without explaining how these ideas fit together or directly answering how far you agree. The reasons are brief and often unclear, and the examples are general rather than developed. The response is also 201 words, so it is 49 words below the 250-word minimum; 16 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen your response, state your position clearly and develop two relevant reasons with specific explanations or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response, including an opening paragraph, a contrasting transition (“Nevertheless”), and a paragraph about disadvantages. This gives the reader some sense of a change in direction. However, ideas are not arranged in a clear overall progression: the first paragraph moves between land use, jobs and crowding, while the later paragraphs introduce privacy and children’s play without a clear link to the central argument. Some connections are difficult to follow, particularly “Another reason is that why people hold this belief…” and “Various studies and real life examples…” The final point does not function as a conclusion. Use one paragraph for each main reason, connect each example explicitly to that reason, and finish by restating your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “land,” “over population,” “privacy,” “disturbance” and “crowding,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning less clear, such as “land wastage,” “appartments,” “reson” and “paople.” Phrases such as “control the population” do not accurately express the point about housing capacity, and “no anyone have privacy” is not a natural way to describe a lack of privacy. Aim for more precise housing vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For example, you could describe apartments as making efficient use of scarce urban land, then explain the specific disadvantage you mean.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional opening (“if we build tall apartment blocks…”) and a contrast introduced by “Although.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “tall building are needed,” “no anyone have privacy,” “children have no space for playing,” and “many families are live in this building.” These show problems with subject–verb agreement, pronouns, verb forms and sentence construction. Some sentences also run several ideas together, as in the explanation of population growth and jobs. Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences first, then combine them with clear clauses using “because,” “although” or “for example.”
