Student answer (Band 6.0)
People often argue about what would be the best way to provide enough homes for the population in large cities, some think that tall apartment blocks are the best way, others think otherwise. I believe that tall apartment blocks are generally the better approach.
The first reason why is that tall apartment blocks take up much less space than normal urban rural homes, due to this reason, the tall apartment blocks can provide a vast range of facilities that otherwise may not be possible due to the lack of area. Most apartment blocks already provide facilities such as healthcare, gym, swimming pool and many other stuff that may not be available in rural areas.
Another important reason is that apartments are very budget friendly, most people living in the city already have alot of financial burden on them so they would not most likely not be able to pay the price for full size houses. Also in the city, most people take local transport so these buildings are usually always close to the stops for these so it would also save a bunch of time for people and also money on taxis or uber therefore apartment blocks are very essential for the economy.
In conclusion, I believe that tall apartment blocks have to be the best way to make sure that enough housing is available for everyone without having to compromise on the essentials due to their efficient use of area and helping to preserve the balance in economy within the city.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you generally support tall apartment blocks, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including efficient land use, access to facilities, affordability, and proximity to public transport. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that apartment blocks “preserve the balance in economy” is unclear, and the discussion of facilities does not directly show how they help provide enough homes. Develop each main reason with a specific explanation or example, and address a possible limitation—such as overcrowding or pressure on services—to make your response more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from land use to affordability and transport is easy to follow, and phrases such as “Another important reason” help signal a new point. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some effective linking. However, several sentences join multiple ideas with commas and “also,” making the relationships less precise; the second body paragraph, for instance, moves from affordability to transport and then to the economy. Use clearer sentence boundaries and organise each paragraph around one main reason, with explanation and an example, to make cohesion more flexible and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including topic-related terms such as “apartment blocks,” “facilities,” “financial burden,” and “local transport.” The meaning is generally understandable, but the range is limited and some choices are informal or imprecise for an academic essay. Examples include “many other stuff,” “a bunch of time,” and “uber”; “normal urban rural homes” is also unclear. Spelling and form issues such as “alot” reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check collocations and spelling. This would help you express the same relevant ideas with greater control and a more consistently appropriate style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning remains clear. For example, you use a reason clause in “because tall apartment blocks take up much less space” and a relative clause in “facilities that otherwise may not be possible.” However, some sentences are overloaded or inaccurately joined. The opening sentence links two independent clauses with only a comma, and the second body paragraph contains a long chain of clauses joined by commas and “also.” There are also errors in forms such as “would not most likely not be able” and “most people living in the city already have.” Use full stops or conjunctions to control clause relationships, and proofread for duplicated negatives and agreement.
