Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You state a clear position—“I firmly agree”—and give two relevant reasons: tall buildings use less space and may make housing cheaper. However, the response is far too brief to address the task adequately: it contains 88 words against the required 250. The first reason is only introduced, and the second is mentioned without explanation or an example. The final phrase, “Mainly because”, leaves a sentence unfinished, so the argument stops before it is developed. To strengthen your response, explain how apartment blocks increase the number of homes on limited urban land, support your points with a relevant example, and consider whether this approach has any limitations before reaching a conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Your opening gives the reader a basic direction: you introduce the issue and state that you agree. The response also begins a body paragraph with “One of my main reason”, which signals that you intend to organise your reasons. However, the ideas do not progress beyond this point, and the second paragraph ends abruptly with “Mainly because”. The link between saving space and providing more homes is implied rather than explained. The repeated “it help” also makes the connection between ideas feel mechanical. Use complete paragraphs with one developed main idea each, and connect claims to explanations and examples using clear references and linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “housing problem”, “tall apartment blocks” and “save some space”, so the central subject is understandable. However, the range is narrow and several choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “a home” when discussing housing generally, “convient” and “contruction”. “Lessen the space being occupy” is also an unclear and unnatural way to express the idea that high-rise buildings use less land. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For example, you could describe “limited urban land”, “increase housing capacity” or “affordable accommodation”, then use these phrases in fully explained points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes a few basic sentence patterns and communicates a clear opinion, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors include “a tall apartment blocks”, where the article and plural noun do not agree, and “it help”, where the verb needs to agree with its subject. In “the space being occupy”, the passive form is incomplete; “being occupied” would be grammatically formed. The fragment “Mainly because” also leaves a dependent clause without a complete main clause. Most sentences follow simple patterns, with little evidence of controlled complex structures. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and complete clauses, then combine ideas using structures such as “because” and “which”.
