Student answer (Band 4.5)

In large cities tall building is the best way to provide more homes. As compare to village area the availability of land mass is very less in large cities as it is already developed upto some extinct. Village area is less developed than cities. Population is more in cities as compares to villages probably this is main reason for difference in availability of land mass, also the living expenses and accommodation is high in cities due to the services and many other factors, coming back to the point multi storey building can have more numbers of homes. For example my village home is much spacious than our apartment in city. In our building upto 23-25 family live in same locality. The services like Transport, shopping and healthcare are easily accessible in cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You take a relevant position by saying tall buildings are the best way to provide more homes, and you give a reason: land is less available in cities. The example of 23–25 families living in one building also supports the idea of high-density housing. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it does not explain the extent of your agreement in a developed way, consider any disadvantages or alternatives, or provide a sufficiently extended example. The comparison with village homes and the comments about city services are not clearly connected to whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, leaving your argument and supporting details underdeveloped. Develop a clear position, explain each reason, and add relevant examples before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable central topic, and phrases such as “For example” and “coming back to the point” attempt to connect ideas. However, it is presented as one paragraph, with no clear introduction, developed body paragraphs, or conclusion. The progression is difficult to follow: it moves from land availability to population, living expenses, apartment capacity, a personal comparison, and city services without showing how each point supports the main argument. Some links are also unclear, particularly the shift from village development to population and land. Organise the essay into paragraphs with one main point in each, and use clear references and transitions to show how examples support your reasons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “availability of land,” “multi storey building,” “accommodation,” and “healthcare,” so the reader can identify the subject of your argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “land mass” is not the natural expression for available building space, “upto some extinct” appears to mean that development has reached a certain extent, and “more numbers of homes” is awkward. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Transport.” Aim for precise, natural phrases and vary your vocabulary when discussing density, housing supply, and urban land use. The suggestions below offer more suitable alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “as” and “due to,” and the main point is generally understandable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. Examples include “As compare to village area,” “Population is more in cities as compares to villages,” and “In our building upto 23-25 family live,” where comparison forms, agreement, articles, and plural forms are not controlled. The long opening section also joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex structures. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation when editing.
