Student answer (Band 6.5)

I strongly agree that building high-risen apartment blocks is the most effective way to povide houses in big cities as they use land efficiently and accomodate large number of people.

The main advantage of apartment blocks is that they provide homes for many households within a relatively small area. In major cities, available land is scarce and property prices are often high, so building separate houses for every family is impractical.Developing upward allows the planners to construct housingsupply without expanding cities. For instance a single apartment building can accomodate hundreds of residents, whereas the same area can take only few families if traditional housing approach is used. As a result this setting can meet the growing demand of housing.

Furthermore, tall apartment blocks can make urban life more convenient and reduce pressure on surrounding areas. When these buildings are constructed near workplaces, schools, hospitals and public transport, residents can access essential services more easily. This can reduce time people need to reach city center from far areas. in additon constructing apartments on large scale an help government to provide affordable housing to low cost families only if they are properly maintained.

In conclusion, i firmly beleive that tall apartment blocks are most effective way to adress housing shortage. They make efficient use of limited land, accommodate more residents and can improve access to essential services. Therefore, governments should prioritise well-designed apartment buildings to ensure that more people have access to suitable housing. With careful planning, they can provide practical and sustainable homes for a growing urban population.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening—“I strongly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central claim with relevant reasons: apartment blocks use scarce land efficiently, house many residents, and can place people near services. The example comparing one building with traditional housing also supports your argument. This meets the task well, but the development is uneven: the land-use point is explained more fully than the claim that apartments can make housing affordable. The condition “only if they are properly maintained” is useful, but you could explain how planning, construction costs, or public provision would make this happen. More specific support for this second benefit would make the argument more fully developed and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate benefits, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “The main advantage,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. The ideas within the first body paragraph also move logically from limited land to vertical construction and its capacity. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, the sentence beginning “in additon constructing apartments…” joins affordability to access to services without a clear transition, and “This setting” has an imprecise reference. Use punctuation to separate ideas and make the relationship between each claim and its explanation explicit; this would make cohesion more flexible and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “available land is scarce,” “property prices,” “essential services,” “housing shortage,” and “sustainable homes.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show some awareness of appropriate academic language. There are also several inaccurate or awkward forms and collocations, such as “high-risen apartment blocks,” “provide houses,” “construct housingsupply,” and “low cost families.” Spelling slips—including “povide,” “accomodate,” “additon,” and “beleive”—also reduce accuracy. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit the precision and control expected for stronger performance. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for housing, affordability, and urban development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“as they use land efficiently”) and a conditional phrase (“if they are properly maintained”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. In “a single apartment building can accommodate hundreds of residents,” the following comparison needs a complete, clearly structured clause; “the same area can take only few families” also needs an article and a more accurate grammatical construction. The sentence beginning “in addition constructing apartments…” lacks clear punctuation and has an unclear structure. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “in additon” and “i firmly believe.” Review articles, sentence boundaries, and clause construction, while continuing to use varied sentence patterns.
