Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the fast-paced lifestyle, the high buildings are a way to provide more housing options to the population. Through this essay, I will address whether this is the best way to provide maximum housing opportunities.
The issue of space in large cities is an ever-growing problem. In order to curb this issue, it is necessary to optimise the use of limited land. This leads to buliding of high complexes to increase the number of houses available for the citizens. For over-populated cities, it is necessary to optimize the land and construct high building to cater to need of ever-growing population. For the city of Mumbai in India, there are a huge number of such buildings in order to manage the huge population which is ever-growing as it is one of the metro cities in India.
The construction of tall buildings in large cities can be disruption as it can lead to issues in city planning. It can also be a problem in case of extreme weather conditions as they can fall and lead to large scale destructions in the city. It can contribute to more pollution in the city as it is not always catering to the growing demand of housing and only as way to show development. However, this development will not always be a boon for the city and can lead to financial burden on the city, if not sold and kept empty.
In conclusion, I believe that for development, building of tall buildings is necessary but it requires a need for proper regulation and policy in order to ensure the construction is an advantage for the large city.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the question and present a qualified position: tall buildings are necessary, but need proper regulation. The discussion gives relevant reasons, including limited land, Mumbai’s population, planning disruption, weather risks and the possibility of empty buildings creating a financial burden. This range of points supports your response. However, the position is not fully developed: the introduction asks whether high buildings are best, but the conclusion does not clearly weigh them against other ways of providing homes. Some claims, such as buildings falling in extreme weather or increasing pollution, are asserted without explaining when or how this happens. Develop fewer points with specific explanation or examples, and make your degree of agreement explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to reasons in favour, concerns, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main stages of the argument, and linking phrases such as “In order to” and “However” show relationships between ideas. At times, though, progression is weakened by repetition: the second paragraph repeats the need to optimise land and build high buildings for a growing population. Some connections are also unclear, particularly the shift from weather risks to pollution and then to empty apartments. Organise each body paragraph around one central claim, remove repeated points, and use clearer links to show how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “limited land,” “over-populated cities,” “city planning,” “financial burden” and “proper regulation.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt more formal expressions such as “curb this issue” and “optimise the use.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, however: “high buildings” is less natural than “high-rise buildings,” while “a disruption” and “large scale destructions” do not fit the intended meanings. “Huge” is also repeated, and “development” is used broadly. Aim for more precise, natural combinations and check spelling, including “building,” which is misspelled as “buliding.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including purpose clauses (“In order to curb this issue…”) and a conditional clause (“if not sold and kept empty”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “it is necessary to optimize the land and construct high building” has a number-agreement problem, and “to cater to need” is missing an article or plural form. In “The construction … can be disruption,” the complement is not grammatically formed; later, “only as way” also needs an article. The final sentence, “it requires a need,” has an awkward structure. Practise article use, singular/plural agreement and sentence patterns with “require” to improve accuracy.
