Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, this topic has become widely debatable. In many major cities nowadays there is lack of housing for growing population.some people beleive thatt his the finest solution of this problem. In my opinion building high rise appartments is not the method to solve this issue.
In one hand. high rise appartment provide housing to many people without occupying large area of ground in crowded cities,it can provide house to several people without taking land of parks and agricultural land. Whereas the land in city centres is quite expensive and limited.for example cities like singapore has accomodated many people in tall buildings. In addition, it is easy to provide electricity and water lane to one tall building than to provide to hundreds of seperate houses.
On the other hand, where high rise appartments provide several benefits to popolutation it also have some drawbacks. one of the major disadvantage of tall buildings is traffic congestion because large amount of people are residing in small neighborhood, local schools and hospital are also become crowded moreover living in high ris appartment can cause social isolation because neighbours rearly talk to each others. Therefore goverment should also build affordable housing in suburban areas and provide fastest trains to connect them.so people can live in houses with gardens in big space without worrying to travel to work on time.
In conclusion, building high rise appartments have several benefits, however i disagree that this is the only solution to alleviate this problem of crowded cities. goverment should develope suburban areas to provide housing for growing population in cities .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you disagree that tall apartment blocks are the best or only solution, while acknowledging their advantages. You address both sides with relevant points, including efficient land use, Singapore as an example, pressure on local services, and social isolation. This covers the task, but some ideas are more fully explained than others. For instance, you mention crowded schools and hospitals without showing how this problem could be managed, and the suburban alternative would be stronger with a specific example or explanation of how transport links make it practical. Develop each main point with a clear cause-and-effect explanation and connect it directly to whether high-rise construction is the best approach.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The contrast between the benefits and drawbacks is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “In addition,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical or incorrectly formed, such as “In one hand,” and punctuation sometimes interrupts the flow. The first body paragraph also moves quickly from land use to utilities, while the second combines congestion, public services, isolation, and a solution. Group related points more clearly, use accurate transitions, and make the relationship between each example and the paragraph’s main idea explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “high rise apartments,” “traffic congestion,” “social isolation,” “agricultural land,” and “suburban areas.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and some phrases show an attempt to use more precise language. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “popolutation,” “seperate,” and “fastest trains.” Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “water lane” and “provide house to several people.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “provide housing,” “water supply,” and “rapid train services.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “Whereas” and a reason-and-result structure beginning “because.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “there is lack of housing” (article use), “cities like Singapore has” (subject–verb agreement), and “it also have some drawbacks” (agreement). Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “In one hand. high rise…” and the run-on sentence beginning “In addition.” To improve, check articles, singular and plural agreement, and verb forms, and separate complete sentences with appropriate punctuation. Aim to make complex sentences accurate before adding more.
