Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I completely agree with this view because high-rise apartments provide significant benefits to people and require less space compared to building individual houses.
On the one hand, constructing tall buildings is highly effective and very efficient to use . Because in major cities lands are very expensive for making individual houses furthermore, these problems can make a situation worse. By building tall apartments blocks providing significant benefits to individual families. One tall skyscraper consists of hundreds of families. As a result, vertical housing helps prevent urban expansion into natural areas while keeping housing available for large populations.
On the other hand, relying only on tall apartment blocks can create significant challenges for modern cities. High-density buildings place heavy pressure on local infrastructure, such as public transport, road networks, and water supply systems. When thousands of residents live in a single small area, it often leads to severe traffic congestion and overcrowded public services. Furthermore, living in high-rise flats can sometimes reduce green spaces and lead to a lower quality of life if the surrounding area is not well-planned.
In Conclusion, i strongly agree that building tall apartments is the most effective to way solve building homes in large cities Although high-rise buildings can put pressure on local infrastructure, their ability to save land and house large populations makes them essential for modern urban living. Whereas this one tall apartment block can provide easily accommodation for up to 100 families.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you strongly support tall apartment blocks, while acknowledging pressure on infrastructure. You give relevant reasons, including efficient land use, housing many families in one building, and avoiding expansion into natural areas. However, the first supporting paragraph is less fully developed: the point about expensive land is not clearly explained, and the claim that one block houses “hundreds of families” would benefit from a specific example or explanation. The counterpoint about congestion and services is more developed, but its relationship to your overall position could be made clearer. The response is 243 words, so it is 7 words below the 250-word minimum; the 16 words copied from the prompt are not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through your argument. Some linking is effective, such as “As a result” connecting high-rise housing with reduced urban expansion. However, transitions are occasionally mechanical or unclear: “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” suggest a balanced contrast, but the conclusion does not fully explain how the drawbacks affect your strong agreement. The first body paragraph also moves abruptly from expensive land to the benefits of apartment blocks. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s main point explicit and using clearer references between claims.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “high-rise apartments,” “urban expansion,” “natural areas,” “infrastructure,” and “traffic congestion.” These terms help communicate the main ideas, and some choices show an attempt to be precise. However, several phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “highly effective and very efficient to use,” “lands are very expensive for making individual houses,” and “solve building homes.” “Tall apartments blocks” also shows inconsistent word form. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit naturalness and precision. Aim for accurate collocations and avoid repeating general words such as “significant benefits”; more specific phrasing would make the argument clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a subordinate clause beginning “When thousands of residents live…” and a contrast introduced by “Although.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “By building tall apartments blocks providing…” is an incomplete construction, and “the most effective to way solve” has incorrect word order and a missing grammatical link. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “In Conclusion, i strongly agree…” and the run-on conclusion sentence. Check sentence boundaries, capitalisation, and the structure of infinitive phrases. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
