Student answer (Band 6.0)

To have enough number of homes in a big city, building tall apartment blocks might look the best solution, but I personally don't agree with this idea. There are many other experimented ways to solve this problems then just building tall apartments.

On one hand, If you want to accomodate a 15 families, you will need a good amount of land to build homes for them, whereas if you just build a tall apartment, you can fit all these 15 families in a much smaller area. This way you can provide homes to more and more families. For example, Karachi is having a drastic increase in population and most of the families live in appartments, as the population grows the demand for homes increases and a home require land which is getting limited hence tall appartments looks best option there.

On the other side, What I feel is most important for providing enough homes is, better planning of infrastructure of a city and providing education to the people. The demand of homes increases when you have unexpected growth in population, for that purpose goverment should teach people about family planning. Just assume you just keep building the tall appartments, for sure there will be a time when you will feel like now building more appartments is also not possible. The government should plan a city's infrastructure properly, just like Islamabad, and also spread awarness among the people. A good planning, proper infrasturcture, and spreading proper guidance to people can better solve the problems of houses in long run.

In conclusion, I would say buidling tall appartment, may be considered a temporary solution to housing problems, but permanent and long term solution require, a better planning, infrastructure and educated citizens.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree that tall apartment blocks are the best solution, and the conclusion reinforces this view by calling them temporary. You also address both the advantages of building upwards and alternatives, using Karachi and Islamabad as examples. This gives the response relevant coverage of the task. However, the discussion is uneven: the land-saving benefit is explained, while the proposed alternatives—family-planning education and infrastructure planning—are asserted more than demonstrated. The claim that education will reduce housing demand would benefit from a clearer explanation, and the Islamabad example needs a specific detail showing how its planning helps. Developing these points more fully would make the argument more consistently convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from the space-saving case for apartments to your preferred long-term measures is easy to follow, and phrases such as “On one hand” and “In conclusion” signal the stages of the argument. Some linking is mechanical or imprecise, however: “On the other side” is less natural for introducing a contrasting argument, and the first body paragraph’s example runs into several connected claims without clear separation. References such as “for that purpose” and “this way” could also identify their ideas more precisely. Use a wider range of transitions and divide longer explanations into clearer steps to make cohesion smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “population,” “infrastructure,” “family planning” and “long-term solution.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “drastic increase in population.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “appartments,” “goverment,” “awarness” and “infrasturcture” recur or affect key terms, while “experimented ways” is not the intended expression. Some combinations are awkward, including “a home require land” and “problems of houses.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they limit the accuracy and flexibility of the vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for housing and urban development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure (“if you just build a tall apartment, you can fit…”) and a contrast using “whereas.” The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “a 15 families” (article and plural), “a home require land” (subject–verb agreement), and “the demand of homes increases” (preposition pattern). Capitalisation after sentence openings is inconsistent, as in “If” and “What,” and several long sentences join multiple ideas with commas, making punctuation less controlled. Aim to check articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
