Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's World, many big cities are facing the problem of overpopulation and their management is constantly trying to find new ways of managing the resources and limited area. One of the ways of managing the space is building tall apartment blocks. While I think that it is a great way to provide homes, there are some downsides too, both of which will be discussed in this essay.
At first sight, building tall apartments appears to be entirely positive. It is eco-friendly, and multiple homes can be built on a single piece of land. And the cost of building, when split among the residents, is way less than what would have been if each one of them chose to build their own home.
Many commentators are of the view that this way of living also increases the social bonds between people. As they are sharing the same building, they might also share the same commodities, like a gym or a swimming pool. Inturn, people get more opportunity to interact with each other. Hence creating a healthy bond and relationship among the neighbours.
However, many others contend that it has detrimental effects as well. The most prominent of them being the fact, that no one is owning that land. They are owning either a room or a flat and humans are not built to stay within the boundaries of a room. It's the freedom which is being effected, and we just cannot ignore that.
All in all, although it is a great way of managing the population and providing homes, we cannot ignore the fact that it effects the freedom of the people. We must try to find out new ways to cope with the problems that arise.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is broadly clear: you see tall apartment blocks as useful for providing homes, while recognising a drawback. You give relevant reasons, including efficient land use, shared construction costs and opportunities to use communal facilities. However, the response does not fully answer the extent question: the conclusion says both sides matter but does not clearly state how far you agree. The counterargument about losing freedom is also asserted rather than explained—for example, clarify how apartment living restricts residents compared with other housing, and whether this outweighs the benefits. Develop fewer points with specific explanation or an example, and make your final judgement explicit, to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement, moving from an introduction to benefits, a drawback and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have identifiable purposes, and linking expressions such as “However” and “All in all” help signal the shift in argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise: “Hence creating a healthy bond” is a fragment attached to the preceding idea, while “At first sight” does not clearly establish a contrast with the next paragraph. The conclusion also repeats the broad two-sided position without resolving it. Improve progression by linking each reason to its explanation and by using references that clearly show how ideas relate, rather than relying mainly on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “overpopulation,” “detrimental effects,” “social bonds” and “communal” facilities (though the text says “commodities”). These choices help communicate the main ideas, and meaning remains clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “managing the resources and limited area,” “share the same commodities,” and “the freedom … is being effected” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Inturn” and “effected” also show spelling or word-form problems. Aim for more precise housing vocabulary and check common collocations; for instance, residents may share amenities, while apartment living may limit privacy or access to private outdoor space.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the concession in “While I think … there are some downsides” and the conditional comparison about building individual homes. Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your argument. Some sentence-boundary and punctuation problems remain: “Hence creating a healthy bond…” is a fragment, and “the fact, that” has an unnecessary comma. The opening also shifts awkwardly from “many big cities” to “their management,” making the reference unclear. Practise joining dependent clauses to complete sentences and check punctuation around clauses. Greater control of these structures would make the argument smoother and more accurate.
