Student answer (Band 6.0)

Building skyscrapers is the most convenient way to accomodate the people in metropolitan cities. Certainly i also believe that it can be the best way to provide adequate residents. In this essay i will discuss that tall apartments can be very helpful for the people who are in search of home to live.

First of all, building high-rise buildings can be a sustainable developement. When houses are built horizontally more land will be occupied. Whereas when flats or apartments are built, the number of homes will be greater. For instance, my village is spread across 100 acres approximately but the number of people who are living in the village is only about two thousand, on the contrary my hostel occupies only 25 acres of land but still accomodate 2500 students because of the multi-floor buildings. Hence, tall apartment blocks can be more convenient and sustainable.

Futhermore, apartments and flats are more affordable. To build a home from scratch can be a bit expensive as it includes buying the land, the cost of raw materials, hiring an architect and interior designer and it includes some government approvals to be taken in prior. Compare to this readymade flats can be much more cheaper and affordable for the people and only a bit renovation is needed if the family wants with some addition of furniture. Also people can simply pay rent and live if they are not sure about living a city. That is how readymade 1 or 2 bhk homes can make public's life easier.

In conclusion, tall apartments are more convenient and a sustainable development and can be more affordable for people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are an effective way to provide homes, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons—using less land and offering a more affordable option. The comparison between your village and hostel is a useful example that supports the land-use point. The response therefore addresses the task, but the affordability paragraph is less fully connected to the specific claim about supplying enough homes in large cities: the discussion of buying a home, renovation and renting could explain more directly how apartment construction increases housing availability. To strengthen the argument further, develop the conditions or limitations of high-rise housing and explain why it is the best approach rather than simply a convenient one.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two reason-based body paragraphs and a conclusion. Signposting such as “First of all,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and the example in the first body paragraph is placed appropriately. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Whereas” begins a fragment rather than a complete contrast, while “on the contrary” does not accurately express the comparison between the village and hostel. The final paragraph repeats the main points but does not add a concluding implication. Use a wider range of linking methods, connect comparisons precisely, and make the relationship between each example and the central claim explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “high-rise buildings,” “multi-floor buildings,” “raw materials” and “government approvals,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There is some attempt at less common language, such as “sustainable development,” but several word-choice and collocation problems limit precision: “adequate residents” should refer to homes or housing, and “sustainable development” is not quite the right description of building tall blocks. Spelling errors such as “accomodate,” “developement” and “Futhermore” are noticeable, as are informal or imprecise expressions such as “readymade flats” and “a bit renovation.” Aim for more accurate housing-related collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas sound more natural and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional clause (“if the family wants”) and a comparison between horizontal housing and apartments. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Whereas when flats or apartments are built, the number of homes will be greater” is not a well-formed contrast, and “only a bit renovation is needed” has an incorrect determiner and noun construction. There are also issues with sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as the long sentence beginning “To build a home from scratch,” which would be clearer if divided or carefully joined. Work on complete contrast clauses, articles and countable/uncountable noun patterns, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
