Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, and you give relevant reasons, including accommodating many residents and preserving land for parks, sports grounds and trees. These points address the topic, but the response develops them only partially. The list of facilities—parking, a rooftop garden, a playing court, cafés and shops—does not explain in much detail how these features make high-rise construction the best solution to housing shortages. The claim that it will reduce traffic or boost tourism also needs a clearer link to the main argument. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason and support it with a specific example, while briefly acknowledging a possible limitation of high-rise living.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening position, two supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs broadly group related ideas, and transitions such as “To begin with,” “In addition” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven: the first moves quickly from housing capacity to amenities, while the second combines land use, sports events, traffic, trees and tourism without clearly showing how each point connects. Some linking phrases are repetitive or awkward, and references such as “there” and “it” do not always make the intended meaning clear. Organise each paragraph around one central reason, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “accommodate,” “utilize,” “international games” and “boost the economy,” and you use some relevant terms for urban facilities. However, the range is limited and many word-choice, spelling and collocation errors make parts of the response difficult to read, for example “highted appaetment blocks,” “great quantity of indiviuals” and “attractional buildings.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “facilitate them” and “good great parts.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding more ambitious words: for instance, describe buildings as “high-rise apartment blocks,” say they “house a large number of residents,” and refer to “public parks.” Careful proofreading for spelling and word forms would also improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, such as the sentence beginning “if we we built tall buildings” and the explanation of how remaining land could be used. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Verb forms and agreement are inconsistent: “if we we built … we can accommodate” shifts tense, while “it will helps” uses an incorrect verb form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable; several ideas are joined with commas or full stops in ways that leave fragments, as in “which can be use for many purposes. such as, grounds…” Articles, plurals and sentence openings also need attention. Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, then check tense consistency, agreement and punctuation.
