Student answer (Band 6.0)

Suitable accommodation is one of the most common debates as people believe that the vertical tall buildings would be a suitable option providing affordable and shared living space to individuals living in major cities. I totally agree with this statement as modern infrastructures with multi-storey apartment would be beneficial for the people as surrounding as it occupies less space providing people their own shelter.

One of the reasons of supporting this idea is the recent increase in population requires extra housing societies providing residence to fulfil the needs of basic shelter. By constructing higher multi-storey infrastructures would be the most suitable alternative to accommodate a large proportion of people by occupying less area. The people living in these areas would share a strong sense of community and belongingness as they share a wide range of facilities such as elevator or stairs interacting more frequently. To illustrate, the people residing in these apartments would share their joys and sorrows and would provide helping hand in need.

Additionally, these apartments would provide affordable personal residence to low-income employees as compared to the luxury villas which require consistent efforts, huge investment and taxes consequently, they would get rid off rental houses which would help them to manage their monthly budget more effectively. To illustrate, heighted infrastructures would help underprivileged people to have their own pace without paying hefty amounts for shared rental houses. However, there are numerous environmental benefits for these buildings as horizontally build houses require a large area to build housing societies by destructing agricultural land and through deforestation which causes long-term damages.

To conclude, building numerous vertical infrastructures would be a better option to provide a suitable place to rising population, instead of horizontal houses which requires hefty amounts and greater agricultural area so I agree with this statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you totally agree that tall apartment buildings can help provide homes in major cities, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give relevant reasons, including accommodating more people on less land, offering lower-cost housing, and reducing pressure on agricultural areas. These points address the question and are supported with examples, such as residents sharing facilities and low-income workers avoiding rental costs. The response also shows some development beyond a simple list of reasons. However, several claims remain broad or unclear—for example, the link between shared facilities and a strong community is asserted rather than explained, and the environmental point is introduced late with limited support. More precise explanation of why high-rise construction is the best option, compared with alternatives, would strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. The ideas generally progress from population and land use to affordability and environmental effects. Linking phrases such as “One of the reasons,” “Additionally,” and “To conclude” help signal this progression. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and “To illustrate” is repeated for examples that are not always clearly connected to the preceding claim. The second body paragraph also combines affordability and environmental arguments, making its focus less controlled. Some sentence boundaries and spacing make the flow harder to follow, particularly around “frequently. To illustrate.” Use clearer topic sentences, develop one main point per paragraph, and connect examples explicitly to the claim they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “multi-storey,” “accommodate,” “low-income,” “agricultural land,” and “deforestation.” These choices show an effort to use more specific language than basic terms, and the main ideas remain understandable. However, some less common expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “vertical tall buildings,” “heighted infrastructures,” “own pace,” and “get rid off rental houses.” There are also collocation and word-form problems in phrases such as “modern infrastructures” and “horizontal houses.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your overall argument, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Prefer established combinations such as “high-rise apartment blocks,” “residential buildings,” and “own home,” and check that each chosen phrase conveys the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “which,” and “instead of,” and your overall meaning is usually clear. However, some sentence structures are incomplete or awkwardly formed. For example, “By constructing higher multi-storey infrastructures would be…” lacks a clear grammatical subject, while “as it occupies less space providing people their own shelter” needs clearer clause structure. There are also agreement and article errors, as in “houses which requires,” and punctuation problems where sentences run together, such as “more frequently. To illustrate.” These errors do not generally prevent understanding, but they limit control of complex sentences. Build each sentence around a clear subject and verb, check singular/plural agreement, and use full stops and commas to separate clauses.
