Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that building tall apartments is the most effective way to provide enough homes in major crowded cities. I strongly agree because of the cost-effectiveness and its implications and by building tall apartments, extra land area can be utilize by the government in a better way by making greener spaces like parks.

By extending buildings vertically, builders can save a lot of cost as they do not have to purchase the extra land area and that money can be used in different purposes such as wages provided to labours, high-quality construction materials for strong foundation of building, better safety equipments etc. In this way, people will get durable buildings with less trade-off. For example, when the money is well spent on the labours, they will work with more dedication and honesty and ultimately they will acheive contentment in thier lives which will increase the happiness factor overall in the society.

Another main reason of building tall apartment is that the extra land space can be utilize to make those spaces greener by planting trees or by constructing public parks. This will ultimately improve our environment and reduce the effects of global warming. Furthermore, It will give an opportunity to the citizens to spent their time outside home after working hours. For Instance, individual's can spent their time in those public parks with their freinds and families just to get a bit of relaxation after stressful day.

In conclusion, I am in agreement of building tall apartments as it the best way to provide enough homes because it can give a lot of benefits to society that is, by not buying extra land, builders can improve apartment's quality and can contribute to the betterment of society. Secondly, the empty land area can be used to construct public parks that can make our enviroment peaceful and healthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give two relevant reasons: vertical construction can reduce land costs, and the space saved can be used for parks and trees. The examples about construction spending and residents relaxing in parks help support these points. This meets the task well, but the development is uneven: the first reason moves from saving land costs to workers’ happiness without clearly showing how this directly makes housing provision more effective. You also do not consider any limitation of tall apartment blocks. To strengthen the response, explain the link between each reason and providing enough homes, and develop the supporting examples more precisely; this would make the argument more fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. The paragraphing is appropriate and the main points are easy to identify. Some connections, however, are less smooth: the first body paragraph shifts from construction costs to workers’ contentment and then to society’s happiness, so the central argument becomes less focused. The conclusion also repeats several points rather than drawing them together. Use linking language to show the precise relationship between claims, and keep each paragraph’s supporting details closely tied to its main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cost-effectiveness,” “high-quality construction materials,” “public parks,” and “global warming.” These choices communicate your main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “extra land area,” “less trade-off,” and “happiness factor overall.” Spelling errors, including “acheive,” “thier,” and “enviroment,” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases are repeated, particularly “building tall apartments” and “extra land.” Aim for more precise housing and urban-planning vocabulary, check spelling carefully, and choose natural collocations so your ideas sound clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “when,” and “that,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms and agreement: “can be utilize” should be “can be utilised,” and “citizens to spent” should be “citizens to spend.” There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “as it the best way,” where “is” is missing, and “building tall apartment” needs a plural form or an article. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, for example “Furthermore, It” and “For Instance.” Review verb patterns after modal verbs and infinitives, and proofread sentence boundaries and capital letters to improve control.
