IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Their is a prespective that in large population cities the best solution is to provide much more homes is by building apartments in a tall-frame manner like one BHK or two BHK apartments according to people's needs and wants. However, I partially agrees to the view as apartments sizes depends on family size, needs and can accomodate larger number of people but I also disagree with the point because of the availibity of the space for building tall apartments.
Firstly, family sizes differ and vary from each other and when people migrate from small cities to larger cities in search of jobs and want to settle in other cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You introduce the topic and state a partial position: “I partially agrees to the view” while also disagreeing because of space availability. This shows an attempt to address the question, but the position is not explained clearly or consistently. The response gives no developed reasons or relevant examples, and the opening reference to apartment sizes and family needs is not expanded into a clear argument. The final sentence begins a point about migration to larger cities but does not complete it. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, so it cannot demonstrate a developed answer to all parts of the task. To improve, state your degree of agreement precisely, then develop both supporting reasoning and examples before concluding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory paragraph is followed by a paragraph beginning “Firstly,” and linking words such as “However” and “because” signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is very limited. The first paragraph combines several points without clearly separating the position from its reasons, while the second paragraph ends mid-thought and does not explain how migration supports the argument. As a result, the reader cannot follow a complete line of reasoning. Build a clear sequence of introduction, developed body paragraphs and conclusion. Give each paragraph one main point, explain it, and use linking phrases to show how it connects to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “large population cities,” “apartments,” “family size,” and “migrate,” which helps establish the subject. There are also attempts at more specific terms such as “one BHK or two BHK apartments.” However, the range is limited, and several spelling or word-choice errors make parts of the response less clear, including “prespective,” “availibity,” and “tall-frame manner.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “provide much more homes” and “settle in other cities.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and a wider range of housing and urban-planning vocabulary. For example, you could refer to “high-rise apartment buildings,” “housing demand,” and “available land.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “However” and a clause introduced by “because.” The meaning of the main position is partly understandable, but errors in sentence structure and agreement are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “I partially agrees” should be “I partially agree,” and “apartments sizes depends” has problems with both the plural noun and verb agreement. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because several ideas are joined into one structure. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and separating long sentences into clearer units. Check agreement, articles and sentence boundaries when editing, while continuing to use some subordinate clauses.
