Student answer (Band 6.0)

The best approach to provide sufficient shelter in big towns is to construct tall builidngs. I partially agreed with this statement as building a tall apartments blocks whill solve the housing crisis but it will gradually impact on nature and safety of people.

Starting with the fact that building a tall apartments will provide houses to individuals. Many people migrate towards city for better opportunities such as jobs , medical sectors is well advanced and a good transportation facilities. There is a capacity for the numbers of people who can stay in city because we all know that land cannot be extended as we want so to solve the housing shortage so to get rid of this issue a big apartment block idea is the best. As we can see, more than around 50 families can live on the apartment block constructed in the tall building which will consume less land as already there is shortage of land in city area. If one person need to build a home, only his family have enough space to live in but in the same land if there is a tall apartment blocks, more family can sustain.

But with all this benefit, nature and safety of people get impacted. If the number of people grows rapidly, the traffic get congested which will create extra pollution like noise pollution, air pollution and the the wastage generated by humans will also increase which affects the natural surroundings heavily. Similarly, with increase in traffic it will increase the accidental rate and with the number of people increasing in the urban areas, it will affect the opportunites available there like jobs, health facilities.

To conclude, there should be balanced approach to get rid of this issue as developmental project should be started in rural areas in terms of facilites like jobs, transportation, medical and so on to stop the migration of people towards cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree that tall apartment blocks can address urban housing shortages, while recognising possible costs. The main supporting point—that many households can occupy less land—is relevant, and the example of more than 50 families helps illustrate it. You also identify concerns about pollution, congestion and safety. However, the discussion of these drawbacks is less fully developed: the link between population growth and fewer job or health opportunities is asserted rather than explained, and the conclusion shifts to rural development without showing how this complements your position on high-rise housing. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation or example, and make the extent of your agreement more explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting apartment blocks, a paragraph outlining disadvantages, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use signposts such as “Starting with” and “To conclude.” However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening of the second body paragraph, “But with all this benefit,” does not smoothly signal the contrast, and the repeated “so” in the first body paragraph makes the reasoning feel circular. Some ideas are crowded into long sentences, particularly the list of reasons people migrate to cities. Use clearer topic sentences and divide related points into shorter units, with pronouns and linking phrases that make relationships between claims explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “housing crisis,” “housing shortage,” “traffic get congested,” and “natural surroundings,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main points. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “noise pollution” and “air pollution.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “builidngs,” “whill,” “opportunites,” and “facilites.” Some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “medical sectors is well advanced,” “sustain” for families living in a building, and “accidental rate.” These choices limit precision even when the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for housing, urban services and safety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional comparison beginning “If one person need to build a home” and a clause explaining that land “cannot be extended as we want.” This shows some range, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, plurals and verb forms recur: “a tall apartments,” “Many people migrate towards city,” “the traffic get congested,” and “more family can sustain.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention; the long sentence beginning “Many people migrate” combines several points without clear grammatical links, and there is a duplicated “the” in “the the wastage.” Review subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms, and use shorter, accurately punctuated sentences when presenting several reasons.
