Student answer (Band 5.0)

IT IS OFTEN ARGUED THAT IN ORDER TO PROVIDE ENOUGH HOMES IN LARGE CITIES IS TO BUILD TALL APARTMENT BLOCKS. IN MY OPINION I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH THIS VIEW BECAUSE NOWADAYS NATURAL DISASTERS ARE INCREASED.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS IDEA IS NOT EFFICENT AT SOME EXTEND LIKE GOVERNMENT CAN BUILD TALL BUILDINGS BUT THE RENT SHOULD BE REASONABLE AND EASY TO AFFORD. FOR EXAMPLE, MANY PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD EVEN A TWO-ROOMS APARTMENT BECAUSE SALARIES ARE LIMITED AND LIVING COST IS RISING DAY BY DAY. ADDITIONALY, HOW MANY BUILDINGS SHOULD BUILD BECAUSE POPOLUTION IS INCREASING RAPIDLY. THEREFORE, THERE ARE LIMITED LAND AND WE CAN'T CUT FORESTS FOR TALL BUILDINGS.

SECONDLY, THE FREQUENCY OF NATURAL DISASTERS ARE INCREASED. FOR EXAMPLE EARTH QUICK CAN AFFECT TALL BUILDINGS AS WELL AS PEOPLE WHO LIVE NEARBY THESE HIGH-RISE BUILDING. MOREOVER, THEY CAN PUT PRESSURE ON ROADS, ELECTRICITY, WATER AND OTHER INFRASTUCTURE. ADDITIONALLY, THIS CAN LEADS TO OVER CROWDING THE SOCIETY AND DIFFICULTY IN MANTAINING SAFETY CONCERNS. AS A RESULT, MANY FAMILIES MAY CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE FOR HOUSES AND SAFETY.

IN CONCLUSION, I COMPLETELY DISAGREE BECAUSE, THIS IDEA CAN BRING ALOT OF NEW ISSUES. SO GOVERNMENT SHOULD SOLVE CITIZENS PROBLEMS FOR EXAMPLE SAFETY CONCERNS. INSTEAD OF BUILDING TALL APARTMENTS BLOCKS IN LARGE CITIES.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear: you completely disagree, and you give relevant concerns about affordability, land use, disasters and pressure on infrastructure. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these points are brief and not fully explained. For instance, the affordability example does not show how another housing approach would provide enough homes, and the disaster argument needs support or qualification. The conclusion repeats your position but does not develop a practical alternative. The response contains 194 words, so it is 56 words below the 250-word minimum; 13 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Use the extra space to explain each main reason and connect it directly to whether tall blocks are the best solution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First and foremost,” “Secondly” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of your argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: the first moves from rent to population and forests without clearly showing how each point supports your position, while the second combines disasters, infrastructure and safety in quick succession. Some linking is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “Additionally” and “For example.” Improve cohesion by grouping related ideas, explaining the connection between sentences, and using clear references so readers can follow how each reason supports your overall argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “afford,” “natural disasters,” “infrastructure” and “overcrowding,” which makes your main concerns understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and several inaccurate spellings or word choices make the reader pause, such as “popolution,” “earth quick,” “efficent” and “mantaining.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “at some extend” and “solve citizens problems.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. You could also use more precise terms for housing and urban planning, such as “housing affordability,” “high-rise development” and “public services,” while avoiding repetition of general words such as “buildings” and “problems.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and examples introduced with “For example.” Nevertheless, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For instance, “the frequency of natural disasters are increased” has an agreement and verb-form problem, while “this can leads” uses an incorrect verb form. The opening construction, “in order to provide enough homes … is to build,” is also incomplete in its structure. There are problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries as well. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check agreement and verb forms.
