Student answer (Band 6.0)

Large cities are epitome of good oppertunities for every individual which is the main cause on increasing population in these cities. Furthermore, to accomodate these people, local governments are more focus on building tall appartment blocks as compare to houses. I strongly agree with this statement as given that it provides more accomodation in less space.

One of the primary reason I strongly agree with this view poiunt is that if every individual who moved to these cities started living in house then the city will be more congested and the extended construction will cause the cut down of forests which will later cause pollution and rise in temperature. Newyork is a great example of this. Some parts of the city are now not sfae for living as they are congested and crowded. Now the government is morefocus on building appartment blocks and flats which consume less space and can accomodat a huge number of people.

Furthermore another reason to support this statement is that it helps the families living in these appartments to build a community and meet and greet with people of differnet cultures and cities who came to reside in big cities for their jobs, studies and sometimes for setteling there. This helps the persond to engage with each other and construct a healthy environment for the city and themselves.

Nevertheless it has some drawbacks as well. Sometimes the construction process of these huge towers cand cause destruction even a little mishap can cause a big destruction. But it happens very rare.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that to construct large buildings in big cities is a smart way to accomodate more individuals in less space.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that tall apartment blocks provide more accommodation in less space, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including reduced land use and the opportunity for residents to form communities, and you acknowledge a possible construction risk. However, the reasons are not developed equally. The point about congestion and forest loss is difficult to follow because the link between building houses and these outcomes is asserted rather than explained, while the community benefit is only briefly described. The New York example is relevant but needs a specific detail to support the claim. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a paragraph acknowledging a drawback, and a conclusion. The progression from space-saving to community benefits and then a limitation is generally logical. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Nevertheless,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas within sentences is occasionally unclear. For example, the discussion of houses, congestion, forest loss, pollution, and temperature combines several claims without showing how one leads to the next. The reference to “this” in the community paragraph is also broad. Use clearer transitions between cause and effect, and make references explicit so readers can follow the argument without having to infer links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “congested,” “construction,” “accommodate,” and “community,” which allows you to discuss housing and urban life. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “primary reason” and “firmly believe.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “oppertunities,” “appartment,” and “sfae.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “epitome of good opportunities,” “more focus on,” and “meet and greet with people” do not fit the intended meaning smoothly. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and control. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for discussing urban development, housing supply, and population growth.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures, as in “if every individual … started living in house then the city will be more congested.” This shows some range, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction remain. For example, “One of the primary reason” needs a plural noun, and “the city will be” does not match the past-tense conditional “started.” The opening sentence also has an unclear grammatical relationship between its clauses. Work on keeping tense consistent in conditional sentences, checking singular and plural forms, and dividing long sentences where several ideas are joined together.
