Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, increasing polulation in large cities has created a growing demand for housing. While it is often argued that the most effective way to provide sufficient homes in large urban area is to constructing high appartment block.I strongly agree with this statement as large cities doesn't have sufficient space to build single homes for every residents.

On one hand, large cities have limited space for creating single home for single family. It need to sufficient space like rural area to build tiny appartment for tiny family. Because of limited space, large urban area has one of the most effective solution for people's live is large appartment.Constructing large appartment building can provide accomodation for a large number of people. This is particularly beneficial in major cities where available space becomeing more extravegent. Moreover appartment building can allows people more safely, securely and reduce urban expansion. It allows recidents to live closer to their workplace, educational institution, hospital and market.

On the other hand, houses with garends provides several benefits that hise-rise appartments cannot provide.Firstly, children have sufficient personal playground to play and adults can relax and rest privately. Secondly, having a garden allow residents to grow fresh vegetables and have freshly grown food to maintain their healthy lives. Also gardening can reduce stress and uplift their mind. Furthermore, individual housing can provide more private spare and privacy compared to high rise appartment.

In conclusion, although housing with garden provides better privacy and healty environment rather than high rise appartment,I consider high rise appartment in large cities because it allow accomodation for a large number of people. It is the most effective way to make better use of limited space in urban area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that tall apartment blocks are the most effective response to limited urban space. You give relevant reasons, including accommodating many residents, reducing urban expansion, and locating people near workplaces and services. You also acknowledge the advantages of houses with gardens, which helps address the opposing view. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the benefits of apartments are asserted rather than supported with a specific example, and the garden paragraph lists advantages without explaining how they compare with the housing needs of a large city. Develop each main point with a concrete example or explanation, and make the comparison more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal this organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, the first body paragraph moves from limited space to “tiny” homes, then to safety and proximity to services without clearly connecting each point. Some transitions, including “Because of limited space,” lead into awkward or incomplete reasoning. Group related ideas and explain the link between them; this will make the argument easier to follow and reduce the list-like effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “limited space,” “urban expansion,” “accommodation,” “privacy,” and “fresh vegetables.” These choices show an attempt to discuss both the practical and personal effects of different housing types. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “large apartment” and “provide,” while frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices sometimes make the meaning difficult to process. Examples include “polulation,” “appartment,” “extravegent,” and “hise-rise.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “allows people more safely” and “uplift their mind.” Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for housing and urban planning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction and a contrast in the conclusion. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “the most effective way … is to constructing” uses an incorrect verb form, while “large cities doesn't have” has subject–verb disagreement. Other examples include “It need to sufficient space” and “having a garden allow,” which have problems with sentence structure and agreement. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a subordinate clause, then check verb forms and agreement before adding further complexity.
