Student answer (Band 6.5)
The population of larger cities is increasing rapidly, which has created a serious demand of housing. some people suggest high rise buildings are the best option for this. I partly agree with this option because high rise apartments can accommodate alot of peoples but there are some other options too.
On one hand, building tall apartment is good option because cities do not have much space for horizontal housing, these apartments can be build near the parks and schools so the daily life becomes easy and economical for the residents. For example the cities like Karachi where the population is increasing rapidly the vertical buildings are playing very vital role in accommodating the residents without using too much land.
On the other hand,I believe that relying only on these tall buildings is not the best solution because the cost of construction and maintaining them are much high, so not everyone can afford to live in them. Also when large numbers of people lives in small space of land they put pressure on amenities like sewerage line , watter supply, electricity and roads. The government should launch the new housing projects for the residents outside the busy cities this option can provide more comfortable living conditions for the families who prefer to live in the larger spaces.
In conclusion, although, i agree that tall apartments are an effective way to over come the housing shortage but the government should combine it with some other options of affordable housing projects to meet the needs of different people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you partly agree that tall apartments help address housing demand, while arguing they should be combined with other housing options. You address both sides and support the benefits with the Karachi example, then explain concerns about construction costs and pressure on services. This meets the task well, and the position is maintained in the conclusion. To make the response more fully developed, explain these points in greater depth—for example, how high-rise housing could be made affordable or how projects outside city centres would connect residents to jobs and services. The claim that apartments can be built near parks and schools is relevant, but its practical advantages could also be explained more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present contrasting considerations, and the conclusion restates your view. The signposts “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the structure easy to follow, and the Karachi example is placed appropriately within the supporting paragraph. To strengthen cohesion further, connect some ideas more explicitly within paragraphs. For instance, explain how pressure on sewerage, water and roads follows from concentrating many residents in one area, and link this directly to your preference for alternative projects. A few transitions feel abrupt, particularly the move from the costs of tall buildings to the government’s proposal for housing outside cities.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “housing shortage,” “accommodate,” “construction,” “amenities,” and “comfortable living conditions.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and “vertical buildings” shows an attempt to vary your wording. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “demand of housing,” “a lot of peoples,” and “very vital role.” Spelling and word formation also need attention in “watter” and “high rise.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for more accurate combinations such as “demand for housing,” “many people,” and “play a vital role,” and check spelling and compound forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a reason clause (“because cities do not have much space”) and a contrast clause (“although … but”). Your meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries reduce accuracy. Examples include “building tall apartment is good option,” “these apartments can be build,” and “large numbers of people lives.” The final sentence also uses “although” and “but” together, where one is sufficient. Punctuation and capitalisation need more consistent control, as in “some people” after the opening sentence and the missing space after “residents.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject–verb match and complete, correctly punctuated clauses.
