Student answer (Band 6.0)

Accomodation is one of the most challenging issues in recent years. People often argue that the optimam way of accomodating more people is by building tall apartment blocks in large cities. I largely agree because it not only facilitate more people in one place, but also reduce the financial pressure on common people. However, its drawbacks should not be ignored.

Usually, tall apartment blocks are designed to accomodate more people at one place.Due to this all the basic necessities are accessible in one place including schools, hospital, mosque and playing area. This will not only ensure the saftey of the residents but also reduce their daily transportation cost. For instance, working parents can drop their children to school that is inside their block, without wasting. As a result, this can create a healthy enviroment.

Building tall apartment blocks will give people more cost efficient option. As, apartment blocks can cover large group of people, that will bring the prices down and a commom people can bear that. Eventually, they can spend thoes money on their family, allowing them to give better household facilities. On the other hand, we must not ignore the damaging results that tall apartment building can bring. For example, during the earthquake we can face number of casualties because it will be difficult for the people to evacuate the buliding in less time. So, by proper auditing the buildings before construction is really important before issuing the licience to the companies.

In conclusion, although building tall apartment block can facilitiate a large group of people by providing them with more facilites and less costly options, we must not compromise on the saftey of the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you largely agree that tall apartment blocks can help house more people, while recognising safety risks. The response addresses both the benefits and a drawback, with relevant examples such as schools within a block and evacuation during an earthquake. This gives the argument a sound basis. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that concentrating residents will lower prices needs a clearer link to land, construction, or housing supply. The safety point is also brief and could be developed with practical safeguards beyond auditing. To strengthen the response, explain how each example supports your position and clarify whether high-rise housing is the best approach or one part of a broader solution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present advantages and a concern, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “As a result,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the argument. The progression is generally logical, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. In “As, apartment blocks can cover large group of people, that will bring the prices down,” the relationship between the clauses is awkward, and “Due to this” refers vaguely to the preceding idea. Paragraph development would be smoother if each paragraph began with a focused topic sentence and then explained its supporting example. Clearer referencing and more natural links would make the organisation more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “transportation cost,” “financial pressure,” “evacuate,” and “casualties,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “cost efficient option.” However, noticeable spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision: “Accomodation,” “optimam,” “saftey,” and “licience” are examples, while “facilitiate” and “common people” are not natural choices in these contexts. Some wording is repetitive, particularly references to “people” and “tall apartment blocks.” Work on accurate spelling and collocations, and use more precise alternatives such as “residents,” “housing costs,” and “provide access to amenities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “although,” and “that,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some sentence patterns are controlled, as in “although building tall apartment block can facilitate a large group of people…” However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction recur. For example, “it not only facilitate … but also reduce” needs matching verb forms, and “a large group of people” does not fit the plural meaning intended in several places. The sentence beginning “As, apartment blocks…” is also incorrectly punctuated and structured. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and check that each sentence has a clear grammatical connection between its clauses.
