Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is widely believed by some individuals that high-rise buildings are the best way to provide housings. From my perspective, I strongly agree with this statement because it accommodate more people in small area, it reduces the pressure on land, also it provides affordable housing instead of individual houses. It allows people to live closer to schools, workplace and hospitals.
It is believed by some individuals that demanding for more houses is increasing day by day. Many people move from rural areas to urban areas for living so, it is the best way to live in high-rise appartment because it is more cheaper to buy a individual home. For instance, individuals migrate from rural areas and have not enough money consequently, they can live in tall- building with less money because it accommodate more people in small area.
Furthermore, another significant advantage of this, it reduces the pressure on land while staying at tall buildings. More opportunities for agriculture and it promotes better environment. Also it allows people to live near the workplace, schools and hospitals. For instance, some of the individuals migrate becuse they need more opportunities, individual homes can be far apart from their destinations and daily commuting of hours can be stressful for them but if they want everything close to them they should prefer high-rise buildings in cities.
To conclude this, I agree with the statement that the development of high-rise buildings should be encouraged as it provide more opportunities to live near to their workplace, schools and hospitalsb because it saves their time or it is also cost effective for individuals to live in tall buildings within the city.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that tall apartment blocks can help provide homes, and the conclusion maintains this view. You give relevant reasons, including accommodating more people on limited land, offering lower-cost housing, and placing residents near workplaces and services. These points address the question, but some are more fully explained than others. The affordability point is repeated, while the claim that high-rise housing creates “more opportunities for agriculture” is not clearly connected to how it provides enough homes. Develop each main reason with a specific explanation or example, and clarify how reduced land use benefits the city. This would make the argument more consistently supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas generally follow the position you take. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the second paragraph moves from rural migration to affordability and then repeats the point about accommodating more people, while the third combines land use, agriculture, the environment and commuting. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “For instance” help signal relationships, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, explain it, and then give a directly relevant example. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow who “they” refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “high-rise buildings,” “pressure on land,” “agriculture” and “daily commuting.” This gives you enough language to communicate your main ideas, but repetition and inaccurate word choices limit precision. “Provide housings” is not the natural expression; use “provide housing” or “provide homes.” Other examples include “demanding for more houses,” “more cheaper,” and “tall-building,” which show difficulty with collocation, word form or spelling. The repeated use of “individuals” and “opportunities” also makes the argument less varied. Build a small set of accurate topic phrases and check spelling and collocations so your vocabulary expresses the intended meaning more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while” and “if,” and your main meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “it accommodate more people” should be “it accommodates more people,” and “as it provide” should be “as it provides.” The sentence beginning “Furthermore, another significant advantage of this” is incomplete, and the opening sentence of the introduction joins several reasons with commas rather than forming clear clauses. Practise checking agreement and articles, and divide long sentences into complete, well-punctuated units while retaining a range of structures.
