Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response recognises that the topic concerns high-rise apartments and gives reasons both for and against them, including affordability, convenience for workers, loneliness among older residents, and high rents. However, it does not clearly answer “to what extent” you agree or disagree: the opening says the buildings are beneficial, while the conclusion merely reports that some people agree and others disagree. The discussion is also limited and often unclear; for example, the point about workers from the countryside is not explained, and the disadvantages are listed rather than supported with specific reasoning or an example. State your own position directly and maintain it throughout, then develop two or three relevant points with clear explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a recognisable essay structure, with an introduction, a paragraph presenting advantages, a paragraph presenting disadvantages, and a final paragraph. Basic signposting such as “Commencing with” and “Despite the given arguments” helps indicate a shift in focus. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined in long, unclear sentences, and the final paragraph does not effectively summarise the discussion or establish your position. Connections between points are sometimes missing, while “also” is repeated frequently. Organise each body paragraph around one main idea, explain it, and use clearer links between the explanation and its example. A concise conclusion that directly answers the question would make the overall progression more complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “high-rise building,” “rent,” and “large cities,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and many expressions are repeated or used inaccurately, which sometimes makes the intended meaning hard to understand. Examples include “full of comfortable,” “vibrent atmosphere,” and “manage their habiets”; spelling errors such as “numerious,” “benefical,” and “apartement” also reduce clarity. Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than adding more difficult words. Build vocabulary for housing and urban planning, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise terms would help you explain affordability, density, and residents’ quality of life.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to use both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “It has believed by numerious individuals” has an incorrect passive construction, while “large cities has built” shows problems with subject–verb agreement and verb form. Articles and sentence structure are also unreliable, as in “to live with full of comfortable” and “they did not use regular upstair to going.” Several sentences run ideas together without clear punctuation, particularly in the advantages paragraph. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, including subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms. Then build longer sentences with clear clauses and punctuation, checking that each sentence expresses one complete, understandable idea.
