Student answer (Band 6.0)

The best approach to ensure sufficient housing in megacities is to build multistory buildings. I am partially agree with this view.

On the one hand, Multistory buildings are considered economical and environmental friendly approaches. Because they can accommodate large number of papulation in limited land area. If all people built independent houses this can cause increased land use and increase rate of environmental effects related to the construction activities including air pollution, solid and hazrdeous waste. Moreover, appartment blocks are considered budget friendly because instead of wasting too much money on building a home people can buy them on lower prices. If people are unable to buy appartment they can rent or borrow them on lease. Many people buy appartments on installments. For instance in karachi pakistan, most of the people are living in skyscrapers and in this way many land resources are conserved. Therefore, Tall heighted buildings are considerd cost effective and ecofriendly.

On the other hand, Living in an apartment is very challenging for some individuals. Because they can not get enough peace and relaxation at home because of the conjested area of apartment. Moreover, neighbourhood voices also disturbs their sleep and work schedule. Many people wanted to relax in gardens but they don't have availability of this facility at apartments. Multistory buildings can cause suffocation and breathing problems in few inhabitants due to poor ventilation systems.

In conclusion, I would suggest that multistory appartments should be promoted by governments and other organizations by raising awareness among public about different environmental problems related to housing and construction activities. Although this is a good initiative but people should have the choice to built independent houses as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing. You address both benefits and drawbacks, supporting the first side with land conservation, affordability and the Karachi example, and the second with concerns about privacy, gardens and ventilation. This covers the task well, but the support is uneven: the environmental and cost benefits receive several points, while the disadvantages are listed more briefly and are not illustrated. The conclusion recommends promoting apartments while preserving a choice of houses, but it could explain more directly why this makes tall blocks the best approach rather than one option among several. Develop the counterargument and weigh the two sides more explicitly to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from the advantages of apartment blocks to their drawbacks, so the reader can follow your argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Because they can accommodate…” is separated as a sentence fragment, and “Moreover” introduces several points without always showing how they relate. Missing spaces after full stops, as in “lease. Many” and “conserved. Therefore,” also interrupt the flow. Use complete sentences, connect each supporting point explicitly to the main claim, and make the conclusion’s relationship to your partial agreement clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “limited land area,” “construction activities,” “environmental problems” and “ventilation systems.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but the range and control are uneven, with repeated reliance on “multistory buildings,” “apartment” and “people.” Several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, such as “papulation,” “hazrdeous,” “conjested” and “neighbourhood voices.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, including “Tall heighted buildings” and “borrow them on lease.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but they reduce precision. Aim for accurate topic-specific collocations and check spelling carefully; vary repeated terms only where the alternative is natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including conditional reasoning (“If all people built independent houses…”) and a concession in the conclusion (“Although this is a good initiative…”). However, errors in sentence construction and agreement recur, and some sentences are fragments. “I am partially agree” should be “I partially agree,” while “Because they can accommodate…” needs to be joined to the preceding sentence. Agreement is also faulty in “neighbourhood voices also disturbs” and “buildings are considerd.” Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries need attention as well, as in “a large number of population” and the run-on punctuation around “lease.Many.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the overall meaning remains understandable. Practise checking each sentence for a complete clause, a correctly formed verb and clear punctuation.
