Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that whether constructing tall apartment block is a best approach to provide sufficient home for residents in big cities. I completely disagree with this statement, because it has a harmful impact on environment and it can result low quality city life such as traffic jams, overcrowded public area and harm eco-system.

To begin with, why building high raised apartments is not a viable solution to provide enough home is that it causes many natural disaster created by putting extra load on landscape. It government takes a initiative to construct a tall building in a wetland, the building would not be adequate strong to face earthquake, storm, tsunami and other natural disaster. For example, big cities like dhaka and lahore is more vulnareble to earthquake for its tall apartment blocks which is maked unplanned anywhere. Authorities in those cities imposed a heavly penalty to constructor to stop build tall building again.

Another aspect to consider is that, it can increase population rate over the capacity of a city. When there are more people leave in a city or a apartment, more cars and individuals there will be in roads and parks. Consequently, traffic jam, environment pollution, air pollution will be significant issues in city life. To illutrate, delhi, kolkata and dhaka have been polluted due to its excessive amount of unaware residents, who do not care environment and throw household waste anywhere they want. Their government are suffering to mitigate environment pollution.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that only building high raised building would not be a adequate solution to manage sufficent home for citizen, this is because it will not only enhances the chance of environmental disaster but also result in unhealthy city life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you disagree with relying on tall apartment blocks, and you give two relevant concerns—environmental risk and pressure on urban services. This addresses the question, but the reasons are not fully convincing or consistently explained. The claim that tall buildings cause natural disasters is unclear; the example about earthquakes in Dhaka and Lahore does not establish that apartment blocks create the risk. The second paragraph links higher density to traffic and pollution, but it does not compare this approach with alternatives or explain how these problems could be managed. Develop each point with a more precise cause-and-effect explanation and a relevant, reliable example to make your argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “To begin with” and “Another aspect to consider,” and a conclusion. The ideas generally follow a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “Consequently” and “For example” help show relationships. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The first body paragraph moves from wetlands to earthquakes and then penalties without explaining how these details support one another. In the next paragraph, “it” at the start has an unclear reference, and the examples of several cities are not clearly tied to the claim about apartment density. Make each paragraph develop one central point in a more continuous sequence, and use explicit references to clarify what each pronoun refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “overcrowded public area,” “landscape,” “traffic jam,” and “environment pollution,” and the reader can generally identify your concerns. There is also some variety in how you describe consequences. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts difficult to interpret, such as “natural disaster created by putting extra load on landscape” and “unaware residents.” Spelling errors, including “vulnareble,” “illutrate,” and “sufficent,” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe buildings as placing pressure on infrastructure or increasing exposure to hazards, rather than saying they create disasters.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at complex structures, including a conditional sentence beginning “If government takes…” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “Consequently.” This shows an effort to vary sentence forms. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries are frequent enough to make some ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “a best approach,” “It government takes a initiative,” “cities … is,” and “it will not only enhances.” There are also run-on or missing-space problems, such as “natural disaster. For example.” Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and verb patterns after modal verbs; then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
