Student answer (Band 6.5)
For the increasing population, significant demand is created for high rise buildings. It is argued that for the huge population it is a great idea to build high rising buildings in big cities. This eassy agrees with this statement because vertical housing make efficient use of limited land and also a good amount of people can stay within a housing apartment though unplanned development of these buildings can cause a lot of trouble.
The main advantage of a building is that, within it a significant amount of people can acomodate easily relatively small area. In densely populated country the land is limited so if houses or low rise builds are made enough people can not stay there which considerably requires more space. But high rise buildings can hold hundreds of residential units on a single plot of land. For example, Dhaka is a densely populated city so for this huge amount of people high rise apartment blocks are required for accommodating urban residents.
Along with the advantages there are some disadvantages too. If the high rise apartments are unplanned that can cause several issues. For instance, traffic congestion, problematic drainage system, pressure on water and electricity supplies.. Unplanned developments create unplanned road which create traffic jam. herefore, governments should also invest in affordable housing projects, improve public transportation and encourage the development of well-planned residential areas outside city centres.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that building tall apartment blocks is one of the most practical ways to provide sufficient housing in large cities because it maximises the use of limited land. Nevertheless, this strategy should be combined with affordable housing initiatives and effective urban planning to ensure that accommodation is accessible to people from different economic backgrounds.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear throughout: you agree that tall apartment blocks are a practical response to housing demand, while recognising that poor planning can create problems. You address the prompt with relevant reasons, including limited land, the capacity of high-rise buildings, and the need for affordable housing and urban planning. The Dhaka example supports your main point, and the conclusion reinforces your view. This is a well-focused response with ideas extended and supported. To make the argument more fully developed, explain more specifically how the listed problems—such as pressure on water and electricity—might undermine high-rise housing, and why your proposed alternatives complement rather than replace it. Some claims, such as that high-rise blocks are “required,” would also benefit from qualification.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs consider benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion returns to your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “Along with the advantages,” and “Nevertheless” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some flexibility in connecting points. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or unclear: “Along with the advantages there are some disadvantages too” is a broad transition, while the shift from listing infrastructure pressures to recommending transport and housing policies could be explained more explicitly. The sentence beginning “Unplanned developments” also repeats the previous point about traffic. Use clearer referencing and develop each paragraph around a distinct step in the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “densely populated,” “residential units,” “traffic congestion,” “affordable housing,” and “urban planning.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common expressions show an attempt to discuss housing and infrastructure precisely. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or repetitive: “high rising buildings” and “high rise buildings” are inconsistent, “a great idea” is informal and vague, and “a significant amount of people” is not a natural expression. Spelling errors such as “eassy,” “acomodate,” and “herefore” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, consistently formal phrasing and proofread spelling; this would make your vocabulary more controlled without changing the clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional idea in “If the high rise apartments are unplanned…” and a reason clause in “because it maximises the use of limited land.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “vertical housing make” has subject–verb disagreement, and “within it a significant amount of people can acomodate” has an incomplete verb construction and awkward sentence structure. The opening sentence, “For the increasing population, significant demand is created,” is also an unnatural passive construction. Punctuation needs attention in “supplies..” and after “herefore,” and the list of infrastructure problems is not integrated into a complete sentence. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and complete sentence patterns while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
