Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recant years, a growing number of people is moving from rural areas to modern cities. Because of this the governmoents are looking for a solution on how to provide more living spaces to people living in urban areas. Many people believe that the most affective way of how to provide this, is to construct more tall apartment buildings. I strongly agree with this idea, as if more appartment buildings were constructed, the city would be able to accomodate more people.
There are many ways how enough homes in large cities could be provided like city extensions, but I believe that the erection of apartment buildings is the best solution. This is mainly because by constructing tall apartment buildings more people would be able to live in the same area. The buildings would be getting taller, accomodating more people. In addition to this, the city would not need to be expanded in order to accomodate the growing number of people, perserving many rural areas and reducing habitat loss. It is therefore clear that if more tall building are constructed, the city will be able to provide more housing for citizens.
However, the increasing citie's population is likely going to create some major issues for the citizens and transportation. If more people are moving into the cities, the cities will be overcrowded. This is because, by accomodating larger amount of people, more people will be living in the same area. This can lead to conjungtions and other major issues like more people developing anxiety and depression. As they will feel overstumilated by the amount of people living in the same area as them. Therefore, I believe that the governments should advocate for people not to move into major cities, as it may create many significant problems.
To conclude, I believe that the best solution on how to accomodate more people i la

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear at the start: you strongly agree that tall apartment buildings can provide more homes, and you give relevant reasons, including accommodating more residents on the same land and limiting expansion into rural areas. However, the response only partially develops the task. The discussion of overcrowding, congestion and mental health shifts towards arguing that people should not move to cities, without explaining how this concern affects your support for high-rise housing or what could address it. The conclusion is also cut off, so it does not complete your final judgement. To strengthen the response, explain the trade-offs and support each main point with a specific example, while maintaining a consistent answer to whether tall blocks are the best solution.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and an attempted conclusion. Linking phrases such as “In addition to this,” “However,” and “To conclude” help signal relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, progression is uneven: the second body paragraph moves from the effects of population growth to recommending that people avoid cities, but the connection to the central question about apartment blocks is not made clear. Several ideas are also repeated, particularly that more people would live in the same area. The final sentence ends abruptly, leaving the essay without a completed summary. Organise each paragraph around one clear point, explain how it supports or qualifies your position, and use references and transitions to make those links explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “rural areas,” “urban areas,” “habitat loss,” “overcrowded,” and “anxiety and depression.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions such as “the erection of apartment buildings” and “advocate for.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, for example “recant years,” “affective way,” “conj ung tions” (intended as “congestions”), and “provide more living spaces to people.” Repetition of “people,” “cities,” and “accommodate” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “meet housing demand” and “urban sprawl,” and proofread spelling carefully so that vocabulary choices do not distract from your argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “if more apartment buildings were constructed” and subordinate clauses beginning “because” and “as.” These attempts show some range, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences. For example, “a growing number of people is moving” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the increasing cities’ population is likely going to create” has an awkward grammatical construction. The sentence beginning “As they will feel overstimulated…” is a fragment, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise checking agreement, sentence boundaries and clause structure; breaking complex ideas into complete sentences will make your reasoning clearer while preserving variety.
