Student answer (Band 6.0)
Large cities are often prone to higher population due to the opportunities it offers. The urge to settle down in a large city often subjects it to excessive crowd and shortage of homes to accomodate everyone. A solution to the accomodation issue can be construction of tall apartment blocks in the cities. Tall apartment blocks can be home to a larger population in comparison to houses built for just one particular family. In this manner, the issue regarding scarcity of land for adeqaute number of homes in large cities can be addressed properly. Alongside, it would be more cost efficient as the cost of constructing one building, though taller, would be distributed amongst a larger number of people. However, the construction needs to be done after proper research of the area, especially its geological properties and surrounding areas and climate. Often, due to inadequate planning and research, tall apartment blocks are built in areas which later turns out to be causes of concern and danger. In Dhaka city, for example, there are many tall building built in areas which are prone to earthqaukes. The buildings, on average are of eight to ten floors each whereas it is advised not to construct anything above four floors in such areas. Residents of these buildings live in constatnt fear but do not have the option of evacuating due to home shortage in the city. Thus, the tall apartment blocks have become an addition in the list of problems rather than a solution.
Therefore, to eliminate the problem of having enough homes in large cities, building of tall apartment blocks can be a suitable approach if proper measures and precautions are taken through abiding of rules and regulations thoroughly .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: tall apartment blocks can help address housing shortages, provided they are planned and built safely. You support this with relevant reasons, including efficient use of land and shared construction costs, and the Dhaka example gives your caution a concrete context. This meets the task well, while showing some of the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the cost argument is asserted rather than explained, and the Dhaka example focuses on unsafe construction without showing how this affects the overall comparison with other housing approaches. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation or evidence, and briefly acknowledge a limitation of apartment blocks before reaching your qualified conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response follows a generally logical path: it introduces the housing problem, explains potential benefits, presents a safety concern, and concludes with a qualified position. Connectors such as “However” and “Thus” help signal the shift in argument. The main limitation is that the response is presented as one continuous paragraph, so the benefits, counterpoint, and conclusion are not visually separated. Some links are also mechanical, particularly “Alongside” and “Therefore,” and the relationship between the Dhaka example and the overall argument could be made more explicit. Use distinct paragraphs for the introduction, supporting reasons, qualification, and conclusion, and vary linking expressions while making references between ideas precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “population,” “scarcity of land,” “geological properties,” and “precautions.” These choices allow you to discuss both housing provision and safety. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices, such as “higher population,” “excessive crowd,” and “cost efficient”; these make parts of the argument less natural, although the meaning remains clear. Spelling errors such as “accomodate,” “adeqaute,” and “earthqaukes” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and proofread carefully. For example, “a growing population,” “overcrowding,” and “cost-effective” would express your ideas more idiomatically.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional structure “if proper measures and precautions are taken” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the opportunities it offers” has an unclear singular reference, while “areas which later turns out” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “there are many tall building,” the plural noun form is needed, and the sentence beginning “The buildings, on average” has faulty punctuation that interrupts the structure. Review agreement, articles and plural forms, and check sentence boundaries and commas. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
