Student answer (Band 6.0)

The best way to provide accommodation for people who tend live in big cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I agree with this statement to some extent as building tall apartments occupies less space and more humans could be accommodated in big cities. But, this can also lead to overpopulation and overcrowding causing decline in the job opportunities for local community.

The building of tall apartments is useful because we know that building seperate homes occupies a lot of area. Due to which, the spaces that are for parks and amusement are lost which can affect the air quality. For example, since last few years, the capital of punjab "Lahore" is facing very severe problems of air pollution which has created a very bad impact on health. The reason is the rise in the construction of new seperate homes as more people are moving to Lahore. So, building tall apartments can be better option to accomodate ore people.

There would be enough homes if tall apartments are built but it can cause overcrowding and overpopulation in that city which can cause the decline in job opportunities for local people and can create problems in thier living. For instance, Lahore and karachi are the big cities of pakistan contributing to 40% of population from other cities which has created lot of competition for locals in every field.

To Conclude, i think that building tall apartments can provide enough homes but on a long run, it can cause major problems for locals. So the best solution is to develop small cities so that people can live there.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree to some extent because apartment blocks use less land, while also recognising possible social costs. The response addresses the question and gives relevant examples, particularly the discussion of Lahore’s air pollution and competition for jobs in Lahore and Karachi. However, the connection between apartment construction and reduced job opportunities is asserted rather than explained, and the claim that separate homes are the reason for Lahore’s pollution needs clearer support. The conclusion proposes developing smaller cities, but this alternative is introduced briefly and is not compared with the main proposal. Develop these points with more precise reasoning and show more directly how your examples support your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion restates your view. This makes the argument easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “For example,” “For instance,” and “To Conclude.” At times, however, the links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. “Due to which” begins a sentence fragment, while the shift from preserving parks to air pollution needs a more explicit explanation. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from overcrowding to job competition without fully showing the connection. Use cohesive phrases to express cause and contrast precisely, and make each paragraph’s central point and supporting explanation more tightly connected.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “accommodation,” “air quality,” “overcrowding,” and “job opportunities,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems that limit precision, such as “seperate,” “accomodate,” and “thier.” Some expressions are awkward or imprecise: “more humans could be accommodated” sounds unnatural in this context, and “decline in the job opportunities” does not clearly express the intended effect. “Amusement” is also not the most suitable term for public recreational spaces. Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, and choose vocabulary that describes the relationship between housing, population pressure, and employment more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “as,” and your meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “people who tend live” needs an infinitive marker, and “Due to which, the spaces…” is an incomplete sentence. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “can be better option” and “on a long run.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, as in “i” and “To Conclude.” These issues do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument, but they reduce accuracy. Practise checking sentence completeness, articles, and standard capitalisation, while continuing to use complex structures with clear clause relationships.
