Student answer (Band 5.5)
People are migrating towards big cities to attain better facilities and improve their standard of living. Big cities are already facing shortage of houses and this migration can worsen the situation if more homes are not build to accomodate people. some individuals are of the view that building tall apartment blocks is the best solution to address this crisis. I also believe that developing sky scrappers will help in solving accomodation problems in big cities.
Building sky scrappers will not only provide shelter to the masses but also help in reducing deforestation that is rapidly increasing to establish new housing socities. The cutting of large volume trees has detrimntal affect on society. It endagering different species. Building tall building will enable us to create more houses in same amount of space without destroying natural habitat of various species and also can be useful in protecting our forests.
As deforestation is a leading cause of global warming. So, by developing enormous structures vertically will help us in saving our forests. Saving forests will be beneficial in countring global warming and green house effect. Also, it will provide land to plant trees that will help in cooling the environment and helps in cleaning the air.
Although, establishing big building help in various ways but it should be done through proper planning. experts shopuld evaluate the areas and must ensure that no safety risk involved in developing sky scrappers. Also these structures should have proper ventilation system and ensure that each apartment will get proper sunlight. i am of the view that building tall buildings is the best way to overcome housing shortage in big cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to address housing shortages, and you give relevant reasons, especially using less land and protecting natural habitats. The discussion of forests, global warming and air quality provides supporting consequences, while the final paragraph recognises that planning and safety matter. This addresses the task, but some points are less fully developed than others. For example, you assert that vertical construction will reduce deforestation without explaining when this would happen or comparing it with alternatives such as building on existing urban land. The safety and sunlight conditions are also introduced briefly rather than supported with an example. Develop each main reason with a specific explanation or illustration to make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs explain environmental benefits, and a conclusion restates your position. The ideas are generally relevant and can be followed. However, progression is weakened by overlap between the second and third paragraphs, both of which focus on forests and climate effects. Some links are mechanical or awkward, such as beginning a sentence with “As deforestation is a leading cause of global warming” and using “Also” to add another consequence. The contrast introduced by “Although” is not completed smoothly. Group related points into a clearer sequence, use references such as “this approach” where appropriate, and make the relationship between each paragraph’s main idea explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “standard of living,” “deforestation,” “natural habitat,” “global warming” and “ventilation system.” These choices help communicate the subject and show attempts to use less common language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “sky scrappers,” “accomodation,” “detrimntal,” and “endagering” are examples. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “cutting of large volume trees” and “countering global warming.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully, particularly for repeated key terms. More precise phrasing would make your environmental argument clearer without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “trees that will help in cooling the environment” and a concession in “Although, establishing big building help in various ways.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation remain. For example, “building tall building will enable us” has a number-agreement problem, while “Although … but” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly. The opening “As deforestation is a leading cause of global warming” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. Practise forming complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
