Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed that increasing population in urban areas has developed accomodation problem. Some people argue that expanding the accomodation buidlings vertically instead of horizontally may help provide the people enough accomodation. This essay agrees with the statement.

The vast occupation of land due to rapid urbanization and non-availability of land for further expansion has encouraged the use of tall apartment towers, especially to accomodate the growing popualtion. The is because more number of people can be accomodated in a relatively small area, as compared to living in single residential home. One such example is of Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, in which most of the people have accomodation in tall apartment towers instead of individual separate homes. This makes the city densly populated with enough homes for the people to live.

Secondly, in large cities, where most of the population comes from outstation daily or once in a month, need ready made accomodation for their stay. The apartment blocks serve a purpose for them as they are already built and can be reused any time. These tall apartment blocks can usually be built within the city area, and access to all the concerned facilities can resultingly be easier for all the people coming from outstation areas, who don't have their own transport. The Karachi is good example of it, where most of the people live in apartments relatively close to the city area and can walk a few distance to reach their places of concern.

In conclusion, the way use of limited available land and to facilitate the growing popualtion is possible through tall apartment buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“This essay agrees with the statement”) and maintained in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons: tall buildings use limited urban land efficiently, and apartments can provide convenient accommodation near city facilities. The Karachi example also helps illustrate your first point. However, the second reason shifts toward temporary visitors and people arriving from outside the city, which is not clearly connected to the broader problem of providing enough permanent homes. Some claims, such as saying most Karachi residents live in towers, would benefit from explanation or support. To develop the response further, explain more directly how high-rise construction increases the overall housing supply and address any limitations or alternatives.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly” (implicit in the first body paragraph), “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The main progression is generally logical, but some links between ideas are not fully clear. For example, the point about people coming from outside the city does not smoothly support the claim that tall blocks are the best way to provide enough homes. References such as “them” and “their places of concern” are also vague. Use more precise links between each reason and the question, and make references explicit so the argument flows less mechanically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “urbanization,” “apartment towers,” “limited available land,” and “facilities.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to use more formal language. However, spelling errors such as “accomodation,” “buidlings,” and “popualtion” recur, and several expressions are awkward or imprecise, including “vast occupation of land,” “outstation daily,” and “places of concern.” Repetition of “accommodation” and “tall apartment blocks” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations; for instance, describe land as “scarce” and refer to “commuters” or “visitors from surrounding areas” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “in which most of the people have accommodation” and a reason clause beginning “as they are already built.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “The is because” is missing the correct subject, and “where most of the population comes … need ready made accommodation” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an unclear sentence structure. The conclusion, “the way use of limited available land … is possible,” is also not grammatically complete. Review articles, agreement, and sentence construction, and check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb.
