Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed by many that building tall apartment buildings is the most appropriate alternative to provide enough homes to people. I concur with this statement, for it is an affordable option to live in such cities and prevents overcrowding.

Firstly, apartment buildings offers an affordable price for people to live in large cities. It serves as an affordable option for people, particularly young individuals who are still in the process of building their careers and do not have enough money to rent or buy a house. Additionally, renting an apartment nearby intitutions, such as work institutes or educational institutes, makes it feasible for them to travel. Thereby, it saves both their time as well as money. Hence, tall apartments can help to solve several issues of people. For example, many students move to big cities for education and require an accomodation which they can afford.

Secondly, tall apartment blocks prevent overcrowding in big cities. This is because enough space is created vertically without using much space horizontally. Tall flats have numerous floors where it can accomodate number of people; hence, it utilises the space efficiently. As a result, less space gets covered by these and keeps the cities free. Take, for example, tall apartment blocks are found nearly everywhere in the metropolitian cities of India to provide enough space for other infrastuctures.

In conclusion, I believe that tall apartment blocks is a viable alternative for providing homes to people as it is an affordable choice and prevents overcrowding in the cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, and the conclusion restates this view. You give two relevant reasons—affordability and efficient use of urban space—and support them with examples involving students and Indian metropolitan cities. However, the affordability point is explained more fully than the claim that high-rise housing prevents overcrowding; the latter would benefit from showing more directly how concentrating residents frees land for other uses or increases housing supply. The response also treats tall blocks as the best solution without considering any limitation or alternative. Develop the second reason further and make the link between each example and your argument more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however: “Hence,” “As a result,” and “Thereby” repeatedly signal relationships that could be expressed more naturally through the sentence structure itself. In the second body paragraph, “Take, for example” is followed by a sentence that does not clearly connect the example to the claim about preventing overcrowding. Use a wider range of linking methods and ensure each example is explicitly tied to the point it illustrates.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “overcrowding,” “vertically,” “utilises the space efficiently,” and “infrastructures,” which helps communicate the main ideas. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, though. “Apartment buildings offers an affordable price” is not a natural way to express the idea, and “work institutes or educational institutes” repeats an imprecise term. There are also spelling errors in “intitutions,” “accomodation,” “metropolitian,” and “infrastuctures.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Aim for more natural housing-related collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in key examples.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “who are still in the process of building their careers” and “This is because enough space is created vertically.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical problems persist, particularly subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms: “apartment buildings offers” should be “apartment buildings offer,” while “tall apartment blocks is” should be “tall apartment blocks are.” In “where it can accomodate number of people,” the pronoun reference and article use also need attention; write, for example, “which can accommodate a large number of people.” Review agreement and articles, and vary sentence patterns while maintaining accuracy.
