Student answer (Band 6.0)

Cities around the globe are facing shortage of houses in acoomodating its people. Some people argue that building very tall sky scarppers is the best solution to address housing problem. i will discuss noth views but I am not totally in support of constructing tall apartment blocks.

Constructing sky scrappers will accomodate more people in small space and leave more land for agriculture and green space. Residents will ahave access to everything inside the tall structures which will leads to less traffic on the road. It will also help in controlling carbon emmission and provide more fresh air.

Others believe that building such blocks will over-crowth the place and will have more harm than the benefits. Constructing sky scrappers need a lot of investment and is a labour intensive projects. Such money can be used for public welfare and developing new socities outside of main cities. In this way, people would not be conjested to small spaces.

In my opinion, tall buildings and sky scrappers need a fortune to invest. People will be residing in small places that can lead to health and safely issues. Foe example, in case of fire, it will be hard for the respective departments to evaquate the people from tall structures an dcontrolling fire will also be a chanllenge for them because of high altitude. The fire departmnet might not have equipment to reach the top building block. So, rather than inversting in such structures, investment should be made in sub- urban area and develop facilities to lessen the pressure on big cities. These sub-urbs should well be connected to the cities so citizens perfer to live there and can easily travel to cities if needed.

in conclusion, i would say that building tall apartment blocks is not the best solution to address the housing crises in big cities. Money should be spent in sub-urban areas and connect them to cities with better transportation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you are “not totally in support” of tall apartment blocks and conclude that investment should instead go to suburban areas and transport. You address both the benefits and drawbacks, including land use, traffic, cost, crowding and fire safety, and the fire example gives one point useful support. However, some ideas are asserted rather than explained: for instance, the claim that tall buildings provide “more fresh air” is not clearly linked to how they would do so, and the discussion of suburban development could explain more fully how it would provide enough homes. Develop the strongest reasons with clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a specific example to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, a personal position and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use signposts such as “Others believe,” “In my opinion” and “In conclusion.” At times, however, the progression feels mechanical, and the relationship between points is not always clear. For example, the advantages paragraph moves from accommodating residents to traffic and emissions without explaining the links, while the conclusion largely repeats the final paragraph. Use linking phrases to show cause and contrast, and organise each body paragraph around one main claim supported by explanation and an example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “agriculture,” “labour intensive,” “public welfare,” “evacuate” and “transportation,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “health and safety issues.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “sky scrappers,” “conjested” and “housing crises.” Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “controlling carbon emission” and “a fortune to invest.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they reduce precision. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “reduce carbon emissions,” “invest a large sum” and “housing shortage.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “In case of fire” and a relative clause in “facilities to lessen the pressure on big cities.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “building sky scrappers need” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “which will leads” combines an incorrect verb form with the modal “will.” There are also errors in articles and sentence construction, as in “the top building block,” and inconsistent capitalisation at sentence beginnings. Review agreement, modal verb patterns and articles, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these structures would make your reasoning easier to read.
