Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, building apartments in larger cities has sparked an outrageous debate among the individuals. Many people believe instead of investing in expensive houses it is convenient for them to buy apartment which has increased the trend of building apartments in larger amount. I believe it has its own significant benefits and drawbacks as well, but from my perspective benefits outweighs the drawbacks.
On one hand, many people argue that tall buildings could have less privacy, all the units are close to each other leaving them no sense of independence and privacy. In their view, where life is already full of hustling and bustling, going in the lifts from one floor to another which makes it quite hard for them especially during the rush hours. The opposing audience believe apartments takes years to build which leads them to suffer from construction noise and gridlock traffic.
On the other hand, a lot of individuals agree that in this highrise of cost of living has made it incredibly hard for people to purchase their own house. By constructing apartments it has made way easier for people who were struggling to even pay their rents. These apartments have a lot to offer, they have multiple options for customers like offering down payments or pay certain percentage. Apartments have made life much easier for those who were struggling to buy land first and then construction and dealing with builders is another head ache.
To conclude, I firmly believe apartments have some drawback but their are multiple advantages which cannot be neglected.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is stated in the introduction and conclusion: you believe the benefits of apartments outweigh their drawbacks. You also present relevant points on both sides, including privacy, lift congestion and construction disruption, alongside affordability and easier access to housing. However, the response only partly answers the specific question about whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. Much of the support shifts to buying apartments and payment options, rather than explaining how high-rise construction increases housing supply or comparing it with alternatives. Several points are asserted briefly, so develop the strongest reasons with a clear explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the main direction easy to follow. Some links between ideas are less clear, however. For example, the sentence about lifts and rush hours is awkwardly connected to the preceding point about privacy, while the construction-noise point is added without explaining its relationship to the main argument. References such as “their view” and “the opposing audience” are also not fully precise. Group related points more carefully and use linking phrases to show cause, contrast or consequence rather than relying mainly on paragraph signposts.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “privacy,” “construction noise,” “gridlock traffic,” “cost of living” and “down payments.” These choices help communicate the housing theme, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “outrageous debate,” “highrise of cost of living” and “in larger amount.” There are also spelling or form issues, including “head ache.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for standard collocations and check whether each phrase expresses the intended meaning in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “where” and “which,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “benefits outweighs” should use a plural verb, while “buy apartment” needs an article or plural form. In “The opposing audience believe apartments takes years,” the subject and verb forms do not agree. The sentence beginning “By constructing apartments it has made way easier” also lacks a clear grammatical subject and has an incomplete construction. Work on building complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement; this will make your argument clearer without limiting your use of complex sentences.
