Student answer (Band 6.0)
The rapid growth of urban population has led to the shortage of housing facilities. Therefore to solve this issue high rise apartments can play a significant role to meet housing requirement but they should not be the sole solution. While tall apartments are beneficial, they also posses some drawbacks.
Firstly, they ultilise the limited urban space in a better way catering the needs of large families. These apartments are affordable and offer a comfortable space to live without using large space. Studio apartments are the best example of it which allow working professionals and students to live near their offices and institutions without stressing over commute.
Another reason is safe housing, apartments are gated small communities offering safety and security to people. Working females feel secure living in these spaces because of high security and near to the commercial market.
A disadvantage of high rise developments is that they offer less opportunities for recreational activities and sometimes posses a threat to environment because of no green activity. Some high rise building are also conjested leaving no space for other activities.
Hence the high rise developments are not only the one solution to urban planning and vertical housing is also important. Governments and policy makers must consider other forms of housing developments and not consider building high rise apartments the universal solution to housing issue.
In conclusion, building tall apartment blocks are a solution to urban housing shortage but options must also be taken into consideration along with it to provide people with varied accomodation facilities. In this way housing requirement can be fulfilled.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: tall apartment blocks can help address urban housing shortages, but should not be the only approach. You give relevant reasons, including efficient use of space, affordability, security, and limited recreational or green space. This addresses the question, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, you say apartments are affordable and secure without showing how these benefits apply broadly or giving a specific example. The environmental drawback is also vague, and the conclusion repeats the position without adding much. Develop fewer points in greater depth, and explain why high-rise construction is or is not the best way compared with alternatives such as mid-rise housing or redevelopment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from space efficiency to security and then limitations is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Another reason,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of paragraphing. However, connections between ideas are sometimes mechanical, and the final two paragraphs repeat the same qualification that high-rises are not the only solution. The relationship between the security point and the main question could also be made more explicit. Use linking phrases that show cause, contrast, or consequence, and make each paragraph advance a distinct part of your argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “urban population,” “high rise apartments,” “recreational activities,” and “housing shortage.” Some less common expressions, such as “commercial market” and “vertical housing,” show an attempt to be precise, though a few choices are unnatural or unclear. Spelling and word-form errors include “ultilise,” “posses,” “conjested,” and “accomodation”; these do not prevent understanding but reduce accuracy. Phrases such as “no green activity” and “comfortable space” are also imprecise for the ideas you want to express. Build precision by learning common collocations for housing and urban planning, and proofread spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Studio apartments … which allow working professionals and students to live near their offices” and a contrast introduced by “While.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “Therefore to solve this issue” needs clearer punctuation, and “building tall apartment blocks are a solution” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “not only the one solution,” the construction is incomplete, while “Some high rise building are” has a number-agreement error. Aim to check agreement and sentence completeness, and use punctuation to separate introductory phrases. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
