Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is irrefutable that most of the developed or large cities has a common problem that is less land for building appartments of living palces for the citizens. Most of the Architects and engineers are suggests that making tall building is a biggest solution to provide homes. In my opinion, I also believe that build a large appartment blocks under the countries building act is one of the best solution.

On the one hand, constructing tall apartment buildings is an effective way to provide enough homes for city residents. This is because large cities often have limited land for residential purposes. By building upwards instead of outwards, more families can live in a small area. Moreover, apartment blocks can include facilities such as parking areas, lifts and security systems, which make life more convenient. For example, in Dhaka, many people live in high-rise apartments because land is expensive and the population is increasing rapidly.

On the other hand, building tall apartment blocks also has some disadvantages. Firstly, constructing these buildings requires a large amount of money and advanced technology. Therefore, the cost of apartments may be too high for low-income families. Secondly, a large number of people living in one building can create problems such as traffic congestion, overcrowded public services and pressure on water and electricity supplies. For this reason, governments should also develop affordable housing projects in suburban areas and improve public transportation so that people can live outside city centres.

In conclusion, I partly agree that tall apartment blocks are a useful way to solve housing shortages in large cities. However, I believe that they should be combined with affordable housing projects and better infrastructure to provide suitable accommodation for people from different economic backgrounds.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear: you partly agree that high-rise apartments help address urban housing shortages, while arguing they should be supported by other measures. You address both the benefits and drawbacks, and the Dhaka example gives the discussion a relevant real-world illustration. The points about limited land, affordability, congestion and pressure on utilities are all pertinent. To make the response more fully developed, explain the trade-offs in greater depth—for instance, how suburban housing and transport could complement high-rise construction, or under what conditions apartment blocks remain affordable. The opening claim about building under a country’s building act is not developed later, so connect it to your argument or replace it with a more directly supported point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present contrasting considerations, and the conclusion restates your qualified position. Ideas progress logically within each paragraph, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the organisation easy to follow. Linking phrases including “This is because,” “Moreover,” and “Therefore” also show a useful range of connections. To strengthen cohesion further, make the relationship between the opening’s reference to building regulations and the later discussion clearer, since that point is not carried through. You could also use more precise referencing and transitions so the argument relies less on familiar paragraph signposts.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “limited land for residential purposes,” “high-rise apartments,” “low-income families,” and “public transportation.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and terms such as “traffic congestion” and “water and electricity supplies” are relevant. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “homes for city residents” in the opening context and “a biggest solution”; spelling errors such as “appartments” and “palces” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more consistent control of natural collocations and spelling, especially in the introduction. For example, use “a major solution” rather than “a biggest solution,” and “housing shortage” to express the central problem concisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional-style explanation with “By building upwards instead of outwards, more families can live in a small area” and a relative clause in “facilities such as parking areas, lifts and security systems, which make life more convenient.” Most of the argument remains understandable, and the later paragraphs show better control. Some grammatical errors are concentrated in the opening: “most of the developed or large cities has” has subject–verb disagreement, “Most of the Architects and engineers are suggests” has an incorrect verb form, and “I also believe that build” needs a grammatical clause such as “I also believe that building…”. Review agreement, verb forms and articles, then proofread the introduction to bring it into line with the clearer sentence control elsewhere.
